How do you disable chat

Having half of my screen taken up with death messages, spam, and general smack talk is REALLY annoying. So how do I disable it, or at the very least reduce it in size.

go into your game options theres a check box at bottom left that has boxes one will say fatality reports turn it off and your good you can do this while in game or out of it
