Working as intended
Thats due to limitations in warbands engine. Armor will come in your way because the game wasnst intended for big armors.
But mind that future patches probably will not be savegame compatible, so don´t get too attached.
and yes, it is NOT save game compatible.
Chaos = Literally unplayable

Are your armies made out of 44 heroes?
At the time of that screenshot above, i think i was at around 30ish heros. Now, after more game time, im up to 50ish heros. All evil alignments. (except 1 token dwarf, human female & 1 Nippon.Though i did note, that i get a moral boost from Nippon troops to my Beastmen faction starting character. so i guess there 'evil' also) My strat was to 'cherry' pick my battles between opposing forces to recruit the prisoners after victory.

You cna find them in taverns or free them from being prisoner
