alayens story... what?
i dont understand his story, what is going on in it, how he tried to accuse his mother and why he got accused instead. i dont know if he is telling something metaphoric or real, and no matter how i turn it, it wont make sense to me

there might be some words he use that i interpret wrong, but i dont know which or how many

what exactly happens? :

"I was my father's first son, and his heir. But my mother died, and my father remarried. His new wife thought that her son should inherit. She could not move against me openly, but the other day I fed a pot of suet that had been left out for me to one of my hounds, and it keeled over. I accused my stepmother, but my father, befuddled by her witchcraft, refused to believe me and ordered me to leave his sight."

According to inheritance law, the firstborn son inherits his father's property. Alayen was the firstborn. His father's second wife wanted her son to inherit instead, so she had to get rid of Alayen. She tried to poison him, as he discovered when the hound he fed his food to died. He accused her of attempted murder, but his father did not believe the accusation, so he forced Alayen to leave because of his "false" accusation.

wow thanks for clearing that up, thats a crazy story

i thought it read that the pot itself keeled over and not the hound

Seems pretty straight forwards to me. Step mom tried to kill him so her biological son would inherit the alayem's father's estate instead of having it go to alayen. Alayen's father didn't believe his alayen's accusation of attempted murder and evedently took it as an insult. Alayen fled for his life.

edit: ack f'ing ninja'd
