As this game is set in the dark ages, Men were expected to fight in wars and if a noble then he would lead his men into battle. Women on the other hand were expected to hold down the household and not much else, as such they were not expected to go to war or even hold down a position of power unless she was the queen.

this is not to say such things never happend, just look at joan of arc for example, but that it was rare and is reflected in how the noble's will treat you ingame.

if you choose to be a women in this it will be harder if you want to become the queen or hold any noblemans position, but not imposible. good luck.

Eh, it's not that much harder. The nobles will treat you with less respect in the early game, but once you build up your renown and army there is almost no difference playing a male vs a female character. I've started my own kingdom as a female several times and the only difference I noticed was that I could not host feasts since I did not have a wife to arrange them, but feasts are not important anyway unless you have a large number of vassals.

Being a woman commoner is difficult, but once you get renown things become normal.

it's because this game is sexist, misogynistic, homophobic, transphobic and xenophobic. all the monarchs should be female to properly represent the demographics of calradia, gay marriage should be in the game because you wouldn't be stoned to death for being gay especially in the sarranid sultanate, it only gives the social constructs of male and female to choose from and you can't even be transgender or pangender, only 2 factions are made up and ruled by people of color the whole map should be black transgender lesbian women.

If you are a new player, playing a woman is harder. If you are a veteran player, and intend to unite the map under yourself, doing it as a woman is significantly easier that doing it as a man.

I assume this is because a woman can marry a powerful male noble and gain control of his fortress and his army? Or is there some reason beyond that?

That's the main reason. Instant way of garrisoning troops for lower wages, a source of armed men in emergencies, a spouse that leads an army, a loyal vassal (if you marry wisely)

But there are other perks, like for example NOT getting a worthless village when you join a faction, so that you can only accumulate cities, for lower tax inefficiency.

Well the way I deal with that is by trading my village to another lord in exchange for a village that is about to be recaptured by the enemy. Can't get rid of those villages fast enough!

I think that you're referring to a modded feature. Trading fiefs is not part of Native.

Yes, it's a feature of Diplomacy which is the only mod I use.
