This guide helped me to get less lag and fix the stuttering. I guess it also helps to reduce the fan noise
Yeah did that - no effect. FPS is down to 60 - notice no change.
I moved the computer away from the corner of the room and further away from me - that helped a little bit. In the corner the sound bounces back off the walls.
It seems to me that when I'm in China (WA Expansion), the computer is a lot quieter - need to test that again.
The fan starts up even on the loading screens.
A lot less is happening in foreign locations. In your Sims' hometown, there are many other Sims doing many other things - starting relationships, getting married, going to work, having babies, driving their cars. There is weather and Autumn leaves and seasonal festivals, if you have the Seasons DLC. If you have the Pets DLC, there are tons of dogs and cats and horses. It all adds up.
