I never could get one to blow, but there was some mention of stopping time around them and then loading them with bullets... or was that against enemies? Not sure.

Time Stop (RB) and then load bullets into that Time Stop. BOOM.

yea, just click middle mouse button(default) to stop time around it, then build up a barrage of bullets on it, then when time resumes it will destroy it.

yea, just click middle mouse button(default) to stop time around it, then build up a barrage of bullets on it, then when time resumes it will destroy it.

That doesn't seem to work for me for some reason. I can't figure out why.

I found the easiest way is to time stop the barrel then use a burst pistol on it and unload the whole clip. When time stop fades, it will destroy the battle.

Indeed, I was replaying it last night and you literally get the burst pistol a second before you are told about overloading them with bullets, a subtle way of developers telling you to stop time and unload your burst pistol on them.

Just mentioning this in-case anyone else ends up here wondering how to explode the chronon barrels.

Any gun will work on those barrels though the burst pistol is useful.
Just a quick click or tap of your middle mouse button while pointing in the direction of the barrel.
You'll know if you did it correctly if the barrel and surroundings immediately start glowing orange.
Just a few bullets will set off the build-up to explosion.

Also ,you don't have to be particularly close either.
