Hello. I am planing a WAN Party for 12 players total. Final days looks like the ideal addition to the group of games, and will provide som break from the competition games we will play.

My question is if Final Days needs to be played much in advance, or if it is a perfect game to tell friends to download just before the WAN party starts?
Also, can we host our own games without setting up our own servers?

Any other information relevant for my scenario is greatly appreciated.

Hi Wilhelm,

Nice, sounds like it'll be a good party. I still occassionally have LAN parties with my friends, and they are great fun! And yes, we've played Final Days at them for the same reasons :)

In my opinion, Final Days does not need to be played in advance to get familiar with it. One of my design goals with it was to make it easy to just jump in and have some quick fun with. So you should find it works well in this respect.

And you most definitely can host your own games. Although for 12 players, I would recommend running the dedicated server for best performance. There's some instructions on how to do this here:

One other note that might be handy for your situation - if anyone doesn't have the full version of the game, they can actually download the free demo version and join full version games. The only restriction will be that they won't be able to pick up the additional power-ups which are only in the full version.

Let me know if you have any other questions. Have fun, and I hope you all enjoy Final Days! :)

Cheers,
Mike

Music... Can't you just .ogg the files rather than using windows media player that mostly everyone uninstals when they get the chance to do so.... Also installed the update... and the game still doesnt want to play music.

I would love to... Unfortunately, the framework I'm using (MonoGame / DirectX) requires Windows Media Player for music and video playback. It would take a lot of work for me to replace this, and unfortunately my time and money is pretty limited at the moment :/

I assume by update, you mean the Media Feature Pack for Windows? That's strange, it should work after installing that. If you could please send me your log files, I will investigate this further and help get this sorted for you. (There's instructions on how to do this in the troubleshooting guide).

Mike

I've been trying to play using remote play together with a friend, with me hosting. For some reason, this game's music is extremely loud on their computer and ignores the volume settings in-game. Like, they can mute the music on MY computer but for them it keeps playing. It makes no sense. Any ideas?

That is a weird issue!

I had a look around in Steam troubleshooting, the Remote Play forums, and Reddit to see if there was any advice. I came across a few people having similar issues, but unfortunately didn't find any solutions.

Maybe one thing you could try is to disable music completely in Final Days? This can be done using the command line switch /nomusic. To try this, follow these steps:
  1. Right-click on Final Days in your Steam Library and select Properties
  2. Under the "General" tab, click "Set Launch Options"
  3. Enter the value: /nomusic
  4. Click OK and close the properties window
  5. Launch Final Days and music should be completely disabled now
I know this doesn't solve the problem, but hopefully it at least lets you mute the music. Let me know if this works for you or not.

Cheers,
Mike

How do you trigger the co-op? Invited people over remote play together and they couldn't play and no idea how to set it up.

There's a few ways to play co-op with your friends.

To play online co-op with up to 16 players, you just need to host a game and then your friends can join. They don't need to buy the game to join, they can just download the free demo and join using that. Here's a guide on how to host a game:

https://steamcommunity.com/sharedfiles/filedetails/?id=780950557
To play local co-op, you'll need some controllers. Just start a game as normal, and then other players just need to press a button on their controller to join. It will then go into split-screen for each player. You can have up to 4 players locally. You can even join or host an online game while playing local split-screen at the same time with up to 16 players in total!

To use Steam's Remote Play Together functionality, it's basically the same as playing local co-op. Here's a guide from Steam Support on using Remote Play: https://support.steampowered.com/kb_article.php?ref=3629-riav-1617

Hope this helps! Let me know if you have any other questions or issues.

Cheers,
Mike

That's up to you. You can have bots as well if you like, or disable them.
