In the meantime, it would help a lot if you could send me the log files for the demo copy in particular. To easily send me the logs, open the Final Days install folder and run the LogUploader app. For more help on how to do this, check out the troubleshooting guide:

Do you know how your friend is trying to join your game?
The only thing I could think of is that they may be trying to join from the friends list or an invite. In this case, Steam might try to launch the full version of the game since that's the version they're trying to join. But it gives some kind of "no license" error because they only have the demo version. I haven't had a chance to test this though and see what actually might happen.
Perhaps get your friend to try joining your game from directly within Final Days if they haven't tried this (i.e. Launch Final Days, click Multiplayer, Browse Games, and then select your game from there).
Cheers,
Mike
I think I've managed to reproduce the error your friend got. If a demo version tries to join a full version game via the Steam UI (e.g. join via friends list, join via invite), then Steam will show a message saying "Failure, no licenses".
It would be nice if Steam could recognise that they have the demo version and launch that instead, but there doesn't seem to be any way to get Steam to do that unfortunately.
To work around this, get your friend to launch their Final Days demo version first and then go to Multiplayer > Browse Games via the in-game menus and join the game from there.
I hope this helps! Please let me know if you have any further issues.
Cheers,
Mike
