I usually look for good fighters with three bonus traits, spook+body builder+healthy, which amounts to 155 starting health. However, I am unable to get a soldier+body builder+ healthy combo, for it will always followed by a fourth deficit of smoker or short sighted. I really can't stand fighter with smoker traits.
I couldn't agree with you more. Even if i get fighters through rescue mission, he/she is at best with only one bonus trait. In most cases I would get priest or survivalist.
in my very 1st game, i rerolled for-eveer to get a dream team of fighters ; only to watch them struggle and eventually get wiped out hard. so now, i dont bother. haha.
i've only been playing on the ahrdest dificulty, and im in my 3rd game now. For some reason, i keep getting rekt. hehe.
Haven't try challenging mode. I'm playing forgiving mode. I must confess that I used to reload the autosave several time just for the sake of saving somebody's ass.
I can not rush the better weapons needed, and I can Not maintain a steady turn around for scavenging missions & rescue missions.
it's my 3rd attempt now ... and i've tried 3 diferent strategies. They have all failed. Even " Buffy " can no longer hit enemy Succubus' anymore realiably (down to 35% now) ; and she has a pure combat build, and is my best equipped survivor.
i'm rage quitting for today ... or i may have anohter heart attack. lol. So... i'll give this hard setting one mroe try later tonight, or tomorrow... then if that fails ( i think it will fail ) i will try a slightly easier setting ... though i generally like playing games on the hardest settings.
oh yeah. and reloading no longer helps to save someone's a_s_s. :) they just keep dying in droves. LOL. :)
Cheer up! Maybe play the forgiving mode for a little relax is not that bad. I have just started a game on challenge mode: it's just the third day and because I have done two rescue mission, my settlement awareness are rocketing to 60, the first horde is on the verge of breaking in. Haha, I don't know with 5 clubs, if these ragmen could survive the first attack.
Like the XCom where you can retrain your soldiers in Battle Academy.
i'll try again today .. i'm a sucker for punishment. hehe
The game is a bit misleading: it suggests the demon attacks get harder over time (which they do...) but I found the single biggest factor for making attacks harder is building up your base too quickly, and adding on characters when you should be prepping your base. I try to aim at getting ranged weapons by the time i have 5 characters, and guard towers by six characters. This gameplay change means on challenging i now die around day 40-50 instead of day 15 ^_^.
Many forum posts note the difficulty spike. having a good fighter definitely helps, but note you also get some really powerful rescued survivor skills that cannot be rolled. there is a 'survivor' skill for the survivalist that gives something like +20% health, energy and attack speed to survivalist classes, and an 'exorcist' for occultist that gives strong occult weapon damage boosts. I haven't found unique skills for the other classes just yet...
That is what i ahve been doing wrong. I hve been increasing my survivors much to quickly. But, its almost hardwired into me to save as many people as possible, regardless of their 'worth' to the betterment of my encampment. Heck, i even research the Find More Survivors occult ability to facilitate that...
I feel dirty, leaving them to die alone instead of saving them. And it sure is neat seeing 30+ survivors scampering about by day 30 ... *cough
I have seen many of those special survivors (exorcist,, etc). I'll double check the other classes in my large pools of survivors; and see if there are better starting skills for some of them as well.
