Help Stalkers! My game updated to 1.0006!
I had AMK installed for a good experience, and lo' and behold, Steam, somehow updates my client to 1.0006! I don't know how to undo this madness!

Reinstall. That usually works. :) Idk what to tell ya other than that, really. I tried one mod but for a different S.T.A.L.K.E.R. game and it was fk'd. I uninstalled the mod and yet, it's still, royally fk'd. Haven't played it since. :tradingcard:

Eureka! STALKERS! I have figured it out! One can simply uninstall, reinstall, and downgrade their STALKER versions for their saves to work again! The process only takes a few steps:

1. Install the game.
2. Start it up once to the Main Menu screen, then close it.
3. Delete the gamedata.dbc and .dbd files in SHoC's local data.
4. Download/Acquire a patch to whichever version you need (e.g 1.0004,1.0005).
5. Apply the patch, and ignore the error of it being unable ot find the readme.
6. Search for where the patch installed on your computer, as it will not install to your steam, but to a THQ folder instead.
7. Copy these contents, all of them, directly into the SHoC folder, and let them overwrite any files there.
8. Start the game, and check if the version is set to the correct number!

Topic should probably be pinned especially considering that the majority of the community are dealing with this issue.

All credit goes to 4 chan's /vg/, specifically Stalker General.

It tells me that I already have 1.0005 patch installed, whether I delete the files or not. I used both worldwide, digital distribution and us patches from stalker-game.com. I also tried editing the register entry about version from 1.0005 to 1.0004 but then it just complains that the region is wrong. Digital distribution says it uses us version and us patcher says it uses en version.

Edit #3
Finally some progress. I found some other guide about tampering with stalker's registry keys.http://www.moddb.com/mods/zone-of-alienation-mod/images/downgrading-your-soc-from-10005-to-10004
I had to add a new registry entry about InstallLang and change it to en. After that it did everything as this thread tells. After installing the patch(US version) to some location in C:, the stalker register changed back like it was before.

If someone else needs to go throught same hoops as I, be VERY careful when editing register. Deleting or modifying wrong entry can make your whole computer unuseable.

After copying the patch into the steam's stalker folder, the game launches normally and version number is 1.0005.

The good thing about having patch 1.0006 on steam is when Lost Alpha comes out which uses 1.0007 beta. Lost Alpha is going to make all the other stalker SoC mods pretty much obsolete.

I'm looking forward to it.

I can't seem to install the patches Bilgecrank is refering to, and I keep gettting the error message, "you already have the update to version [1.0005] installed. It includes all previous updates" Does anyone know a surefire method of downgrading SoC to 1.0005 for Oblivion Lost 3.1 for Steam?
