My review of STALKER (why it sucks)

I don't know about you, but stalker blows dongers. Literally goes in my "never touching again" list.

Pros :
Nice mutant concepts
May be addictive if you like exploration games
Clever endings

Con's :

Game focuses too much on side quests. You can literally press the run button and go on a 10 minute walk to the final level and if you're lucky , survive to see the ending.

Level transition consists of a 32 seconds loading screen that you'll encounter each 3 KM's. Look, if you're going to make an open world game, at least use a ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ engine which supports large maps.

No music. No, nothing. A blank journey into a radioactive zone filled to the dim with mutants, does. not. have. a ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥. soundtrack. Unless 6 tracks counts as one. Because that's the amount on the bonus CD.

Levels brought to you by the ♥♥♥♥♥♥ level transition system, consists of 70% grass and 30% buildings. Its THAT bland. Oh, don't forget when the out of bounds limit isn't guarded by fences, it's by a radioactive field that's supposingly dangerous enough to prevent you from going further, but nope. Use a few medkits and run and enjoy your new adventure of falling through a void with just the skybox to look at.

Deadly dangerous zone filled with a terrible amount of radiations and creepy mutants that you supposingly can't escape from, is guarded by ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ FENCES. ♥♥♥♥ man, can't the mutants/Stalkers jump over it and terrorize the outside world with their spooky face/artifacts ?

Bugs glitches and more bugs. Next time you walk through a mine field, make sure to avoid walking through the left path. You'll cross a poorly made scripted event that will make random ass bandits with AK's appear in front of you.

Accuracy is terrible. Crouched and shot a guy in the head and it appeared I missed or something. Even though I was at close range. Unless the guy i was shooting at was the protagonist of cawd of dooty reborn 2, or I was playing the E3 version of ArmA, he sure as ♥♥♥♥ would've died without having me spend an entire mag.

Patches can't save this game from glitches. They tried, I guess. wow where did these bandits come frO-

Tries to be realistic, yet I'm gonna make this clear. Exposure to radiation will K.O you in a matter of seconds.

Fanbase endorses the ♥♥♥♥♥♥ and dumb Russian stereotypes the game offers. "LOL Le cheeki breeKI strelok !"

So back to our discussion, i know people cared about the cuts, but they falsely thought the cuts were imposed by the "evil" publishers, when in fact it looks like it was a decision made by the development team, and the reasons for the decision become obvious when playing Lost Alpha, huge areas full of....nothing.

My explanation for the map changes is that the a-life didn't work as planned since it was too buggy for a retail release, like they said in the video they were planning for SoC to be a fully a-life driven game, and the maps kept the same design philosophy. In the end though, they pretty much cut all the features that I describe like freely roaming npcs, and made the levels smaller to compensate for the lack of things to do in them.

You can see in mods that try to add those features back that it can make the game crash sometimes, and quest characters can easily die if there are things roaming around randomly. The polish in the code just wasn't there, it was hard to bug-check due to its randomness, and they had already worked on the game for years. So, they just decided to remove things that were deemed unprofessional (by them, not the publishers like some people say), make the world compact so its interesting to traverse and easier to explore, changed a ton of the story, and cut out maps that didn't fit in the story like Darkscape.

And in the end, Stalker turned out awesome, but had a lot of hidden potential that modders love to exploit because GSC is a great dev and doesn't lock down the game files at all, so they are all easily modified.

All I read was you crying about how much you suck at the game and how unfamiliar you are with it so you're searching for ways to break it or nit-pick so you can validate moving on because you're not having fun because you're bad at it.

Stalker is it a punishing experience that will lead you to wonders, mysteries and horrors and kill you dead quicker than it takes to feel a single heartbeat.

What really sucks is that the OP can't see the Stalker experience the way we do and enjoy this game. We should pity the OP not rage at them as they are so missing out and we are not lol.

I totally agree with you on the fanbase part. So ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ tired of seeing Cheeki Breeki plastered everywhere. However, if you try mods, you'll find that you develop a new sense of appreciation for the game. Again, maybe this game just isn't your thing. Only some people enjoy and see the beauty in these times of games.
