Mini-map - bottom right corner?

Hi all, just got the stalker "trilogy" on the steam sale... started SOC a couple days ago and have a question for all you veterans out there.
I looked thru the game manual and did a quick search on the forum but could not find anything about the numbers that appear at the bottom right corner of the mini-map...
Also, I'll be running along and hear these various sounding "beeps" (that at times seem to correspond to #'s appearing)...
Can anyone help me out here?

Well, there's not much to the user manual and after checking it twice (and then coming to the forum with a polite question)...
then returning to the manual a third time and still not finding anything... I'm guessing my failure to find anything is due to -
1) it's not there... or -
2) it is there and I missed it three times running, which though unlikely, is not entirely out of the realm of possibilities.
So, my question to you Mr. SLeepy, can you point me in the right direction, such as a page # and paragraph in the manual... or are you just being snarky and really don't know anything? :j

Well, well, well...
No response from my friend Mr. SLeepy...
However, I did a google search on the mini-map and found a couple of interesting things..

Me being rude is just in a thing in your imagination but seems like you're starting to be impolite.
Considering my hypothesis that,if you threat me,you can get what you were looking for.Ain't gonna happen.So don't think people on the forum is trying to upset you,there are only words and the way you read them is how it will make like them are suppose to hurt you.

Keep in mind Mr. SLeepy that the "interwebz" has no way to figure out attitude other than the printed text, so if your printed text looks and sounds derogatory, that's how it will be taken unless you specify otherwise...
in other words, if someone texts me saying

That tells me that they do not believe what I "texted" and that they are calling me a liar.

Hi, congrats on buying the S.T.A.L.K.E.R series you'll love it! The numbers are the amount of NPCs/mutants that you can see or are in your minimap area at that time. As you run and pass NPCs the number will decrease as there are less of them on your map then it will beep when more come into your area. Does that make sense?
