how important is ZRP?
is it a must to play with ZRP so i can have a relatively bug-free / crash-free experience ? i barely managed to make the regular STALKER work , but when I install ZRP the game crashes , something to do with xr_3da and xrCore.dll and i cant seem to get it fixed. is it worth bothering or should i just try to play vanilla

Vanilla works perfectly fine for me and many others, so it's not a must.
But then again vanilla doesn't work for some other people so they resort to *fix* mods.

If you managed to get it to work then you don't need anything.

Not important at all and definitely not a must play.

the 2 posters above might be the biggest haters of zrp in existence. you should look up what zrp does.

steam is filled with insanely bias opinions, ZRP is simply too mainstream of a mod so they hate it.

Yeah it's so biased to tell a person to just play vanilla game "as is" if it totally works for him instead of getting something he thought he needed.

I think nobody here hates ZRP, but someone is a little crazy about this mod imo. It is not good or bad, but it still changes some essential things of SoC and it is better to make first playthru using pure vanilla, if that is possible. ZRP really fixes most of bugs and make things easier, but first try beta if got crashes.

See that? Now convince him it's not ZRP's fault and he still needs it.

he doesnt need it if he just wants to play the game/story. perhaps he didnt install it correctly you need to enable mods with a notepad. skip to 1:53 in this video and you will see a file called FSgame.text you enable mods there not sure how it ended up breaking your game but keep in mind steam unistall doesnt get rid of mods you need to go into the games file and manually delete the added files.

i like zrp it has alot of toggleable options and has been around for along time.

It's not that important but it is cool, specially for 2nd playthroughs as it gets rid of many bugs. Although, if you want a close-to-vanilla experience, you need to use the "modifier.exe" that's on the "gamedata" and change everything to "default, otherwise you'll get what the mod has to offer.

I'll look into zrp. I beat the game vanilla first, then I tried a few mods and they were bloated chuggers or just to dark. I'm not really on either stance about hating or loving the mods. Just the ones I tried, its like they made it dark as hell, you can barely see 1 foot in front of you. Another one ran like molasses. And they ain't small mods either, basically a huge gb dl waste of time for to dark and push your system to the max when none of that's needed for stalker.

What I'd like is a stalker mod that doesn't mess with any of the brightness, just makes things better not worse. I don't understand why just make things really dark.

I haven't messed with any mods yet that were impressive just make the game a bigger pain to play. So I can kinda see phys point, if all the mods were crummy I'd like vanilla more too.
