S.T.A.L.K.E.R.: Shadow of Chernobyl

Do I missing something about aiming in this game?
I'm about to quit the game due to the horrendous aiming accuracy. Am I missing something about this mechanic? It totally ruins the pacing of the game and is incredibly frustrating.

use the mouse
there is a weapon progression
the 5.56 rifles are more accurate
the really expensive endgame 5.56 rifle is very accurate
the sniper rifles are very accurate

Maybe the problem is that I'm using it like you're using your brain.

Try not to move while shooting, try to crouch, use the sights and try to use the single-fire mode instead of the automatic one. It's not that bad, but it feels bad because lack of feedback

For the longest time, my friend was convinced that your stalker rank affects your accuracy, lol. Rookies having terrible accuracy but Experts having decent accuracy. He always claimed his shooting was more accurate over time. I think it's more likely the condition of your weapon, though - your weapon condition directly degrades certain stats like recoil + accuracy as the condition lowers. However your starting gear sucks and weapons you can find early on is often in average or poor condition, which is definitely more likely the cause.

NATO weapons tend to be more accurate and have higher piercing, but have lower durability compared to Eastern Bloc weapon - and some weapons are unique and very accurate. You're not missing anything or doing anything wrong, the early game is hell for a reason, least not because your weapons are somewhat terrible, low condition and mostly for close quarters. I think the most accurate thing you can grab early on is the "Sniper" Obokan or whatever it's called, the AN-94 you can find being used by the captain at the Cordon Military Checkpoint, which also comes with a scope and there's a suppressor in Cordon on roof of one of the buildings near the Grain Mill for it too, although I'm not sure if suppressors boost accuracy actually.

Accuracy is further modified by your stance, even if you're not moving your accuracy won't increase to 100% at long ranges in most cases. It's also tightened by aiming down your sights, but this is like common knowledge, I don't mean to be patronising you or nothin', At medium range with a scope, aimed in and with a weapon at like 75%+ condition you should be able to headshot most enemies with good accuracy even from standing though.

You should start feeling more accurate overall once you finish the early game hell and deliver the documents to Barman.
