Best graphics mod.
Going to play this game for the first time and want some mods to make it look decent. I would prefer if everything stays vanilla only improve graphics and perhaps animations. No changes to the story. anyone has any suggestions. I was looking on nexus but a lot of these mods change the story,

I suggest vanilla first, but if you insist, Memories of the Zone keeps the gameplay and story vanilla mostly and makes things pretty, and has a bunch of optional addons bundled in to fine tune it to what you prefer but honestly its perfect as it out the box, its not easy to install though.

Personally i think its worth playing vanilla because SoC was cutting edge graphically anyway back in the day and changing it soley to look more pretty with artistically clashing higher poly models taken from a lot of different modders from completely different communities actually makes it look worse but hey thats just me.

Playing through for the first time in vanilla, although halfway through I decided to add a mod that overhauls weapon models, animations and sounds because the vanilla ones look like ass. Original Weapons Renewal 3 is the mod. You can find it on mod.db .

TL;DR
Go with ZRP, Absolute Structures/Nature, Atmosfear, HD models. This keeps the game pure vanilla with visual upgrades and bug fixes.

ZRP: http://www.metacognix.com/files/stlkrsoc/index.html
Absolute Structures: https://www.moddb.com/games/stalker/addons/absolute-structures-texture-pack1
Absolute Nature: https://www.moddb.com/games/stalker/addons/absolute-nature-texture-pack1
Atmosfear: https://www.moddb.com/mods/atmosfear-for-call-of-pripyat
HD Models: https://www.moddb.com/mods/shadow-of-chernobyl-hd-models-addon

I'm not one to tell people how to enjoy their games, meaning, I do not tell people to strictly play vanilla first. I want to provide options to get more people involved with these games and all their glory. I know a lot of stalker fans will hate me for this because it's not "true vanilla" and this is your first play-through. Take a look at Autumn Aurora2. In my strong opinion it is the best mod I have played for SoC. It's fantastic graphically, enhances the audio (nights are terrifying) adds free play, and more. You can read more on it here ->

Good luck, happy hunting, and take it slow.

Nope you're not stupid, but I am blind(It literally says CoP in the link) Was just going through my Stalker mod bookmarks copy pasting lol. There is no standalone atmosfear for SoC. I get these discussions mixed up. Maybe too much vodka and stale bread.

I personally just went for Stalker complete 2009. I wanted as close to the vanilla experience as possible but desperately needed to remove the headbob. it does have other improvements, including lighting and some minor AI improvements.
COINCELPRO Aug 22, 2022 @ 11:26am
it doesn't improve the AI, just dumbs it down

removing headbob is a matter of editing a couple lines of text, depending on the way you go about it

I have heard, primarily from Mandalore Gaming's review on SoC that Complete actually changes the game in some ways different to the original that makes it not "Vanilla". I played through SoC first time completely vanilla until I added on the aformentioned Original Weapons Renewal 3 towards the end of it. Instead I would recommend checking out the Zone Reclamation Project, which is basically vanilla but ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ of bugfixes and the ability to change things. Also check out the Sky Reclamation Project for Clear Sky, I used that and it was a LIFESAVER.
Lucius Caesar Aug 23, 2022 @ 1:58am
that's fair. I know it does quite a few subtle changes that probably do modify the experience, but having played the game years ago vanilla, and playing it now with the complete 2009 mod it feels like how I remember... kinda like how a good remaster of a game needs to play, not how the game originally played but how you remember it playing, if that makes sense?
But totally fair if anyone doesn't want those changes.

A vote for Memories of the Zone here. https://www.moddb.com/mods/stalker-memories-of-the-zone

If you want the best graphical experience without adding too much nonsense like post process then you should install Autumn Aurora, HD Models and there was a mod for better weapon textures on ModDB's SoC site as far as i know, just forget it's name.
