Mod Help
How do you actually install the Memories of The Zone mod? The instructions are borderline useless, the link to the discord for help is invalid, searching on google gives no results. Everyone says this game is great but you need to have the mod installed to appreciate it with decent graphics so any help would be appreciated before I just refund this game.

The whole "you can only appreciate the game with mods" is a terrible mindset, who told you that?

Personal opinions aside, it shouldnt be too hard to install a mod for any of the games, just drag and drop the gamedata folder into the main directory of the game (or just everything the mod comes with, theres probably a readme in most worthwhile mods)

I am very much a visuals person so yeah, I played for a bit and just don't like the way things look.

No readme, just 4 .rar files with instructions that don't make sense and when I follow the "instructions" it throws an error.

.rar files means you probably need to open and combine the files. Often people will split their big mods into small chunks to help download speeds. Use winrar or 7zip (I prefer 7zip) to open the .rar files and send us a picture of what's inside.

Done. Bunch of different folders and a readme repeating the same instructions found on the mod website. Moved them to the install folder as stated. There is no bin_64x folder just a regular bin. Additionally there is no target field for the engine, attempting to launch the game returns the error- xrAPI.dll not found. Copy/Paste of Readme instructions below-

Step 1: Download and install a fresh copy of STALKER: Shadow Of Chernobyl patched to version 1.0006. The Steam and GOG versions are perfectly fine.
Step 2: Open the "Base" folder, and drag everything inside into your install folder. This is usually something like "C://GOG Games/ STALKER Shadow of Chernobyl". On steam, you can open the game folder from within the app.
Step 3: Read through the optionals folder. There is a readme included for every addon so you can see what you might like. Install all addons the same way you installed the Base folder.
Step 4: Open the bin_x64 folder and create a shortcut to XRengine.exe. Alternatively, change your default game shortcut to point to the new executable. Launching the game from steam or GoG Galaxy will not work.
Step 5: If you use STEAM or GOG, add the -steam parameter to the end of the "Target" field in your game shortcut properties. If you don't do this, the game won't launch!

Also yes in step 1 this is a fresh install with no saved data and files validated.
Alright, well tell you what. It's really hard to diagnose a problem over text, so I'm gonna go ahead and download the mod and I'll see if I can't figure it out. Then I'll either tell you or maybe make a video showing install.

It'll take me a while because I have slow internet, so be prepared to wait a bit.

That was supposed to get removed, there is a hotfix and I had the wrong files open. Got everything set up, made the copy, and now it seems to be almost there. It is returning a fatal error. Issues below-

Expression: error handler is invoked
Function: handler_base
File:
c\projects\ogsr-engine\ogsr_engine\xrcore\xdebugnew.cpp
Line:386
Description: std: out of memory
See log file and minidump for detailed information
Press OK to abort execution.

Then it follows-

Expression: ExitFromWinMain
Function:xrDebug::_initialize::<lambda_663d329366c365035b2404d7d23e352e>:operator()
File:
c\projects\ogsr-engine\ogsr_engine\xrcore\xdebugnew.cpp
Line:511
Description: std: Unexpected application exit!
See log file and minidump for detailed information
Press OK to abort execution.

All I can find about that specific error is that -steam is needed to be added to the target but when I do that it tells me the target is invalid. Am am I misunderstanding something there?

-steam means in the launch properties of steam. So you right click on the game in your library and do properties -> launch properties.

Interesting. Ok, adding the engine shortcut to the launch options causes the game to fail to launch. It will present the normal steam opening for the CD key, then ask if I want to allow the program to make changes, then black screen and fail to load. I will try a clean install to see if that fixes anything

Clean install and changing the launch path in steam to grab the engine results in the game crashing on startup as well.
Siazk Jul 1, 2021 @ 10:08am
Finally got it. After you make the shortcut it literally wants you to put (space)-steam at the end of the target. So it should look like-

"E:\SteamLibrary\steamapps\common\STALKER Shadow of Chernobyl\bin_x64\xrEngine.exe" -steam
Yes I know its and E drive, SSD ftw. Thanks for the help Cujo, leaving this here for anyone new who has the same issue I did.
