Vanilla vs Zone Reclamation Project

I'm playing S.T.A.L.K.E.R. for the first time, I've played Metro 2033 and Last Light but not Exodus yet which are similar.

So far I'm liking it, I have to traverse the railroad enbankment and help Fox.
I always see people mentioning to play with mods, so how is ZRP for a first-time playthrough?

I think I will play with ZRP. One thing, is how do I install it? I've downloaded ZRP but it says to move the gamedata folder to my S.T.A.L.K.E.R. installation directory, but there is no gamedata folder, only _appdata_ by default in the directory.

I've edited the file fsgame.ltx in notepad to make the game moddable. Do I just drag the gamedata folder into the directory?

I suggest Zone Reclamation Project, you won't really find any differences besides just less annoying bugs

Just drag the gamedata folder from the mod into your stalker directory

Play vanilla first, if you like it. ZRP is nice, but it will make things much easier.

fsgame is not needed to be edited, just drop gamedata into the main game folder.

ZRP does some changes that i dont like and it isnt needed tbh, either way could be worse

Vanilla, the only game of the trilogy that really benefits from fix-type mods is Clear Sky.

ZRP adds random squads of mercs carrying much better weapons and AP ammo. Enable that at the start and you can build up a supply of AP ammo and sell the weapons so you always have plenty of meds. The only downside was they started to over spawn and some areas became impossible to pass.

Vanilla, but maybe RMA + AA after that (Far superior to vanilla in terms of gunplay etc). Try Call of Cherobyl after you play through CS and CoP. You need to run the game once after you edit fsgame.ltx to upack the gamedata directory.
