Trying to get mods to work
I'm kind of a noob when it comes to installing mods and I need a little help. I'm trying to install the modpack Memories of the Zone and even though I try to follow the readme directions, I still can't get it to work. I honestly am unsure where to put the files really. Can someone give me steps to just installing mods on Stalker soc?

What exactly isn't working? Will it start and crash? Does it not start at all?

Also, did you follow the ModDB instructions to a T?

From the top of the page:

IMPORTANT : FOLLOW THE INSTALL INSTRUCTIONS COMPLETELY AND FULLY OR YOUR GAME WILL NOT WORK! In addition, please DO NOT use the build weather addon for now - it has a bug that has yet to be fixed.

INSTALL:

Step 1: Download and install a fresh copy of STALKER: Shadow Of Chernobyl patched to version 1.0006. The Steam and GOG versions are perfectly fine.
Step 2: Open the "Base" folder, and drag everything inside into your install folder. This is usually something like "C://GOG Games/ STALKER Shadow of Chernobyl".
Step 3: Read through the optionals folder. There is a readme included for every addon so you can see what you might like. Read each readme for an addon before you install them.
Step 4: Open the bin_x64 folder and create a shortcut to XRengine.exe. Launching the game from steam or GoG Galaxy will not work.
Step 5: Add the -steam parameter to the end of the "Target" field in your game shortcut properties. If you don't do this, the game won't launch! (This applies to all copies, even DVD, as it tells the engine that you are playing the Worldwide/English version of the game.)
My problem is when booting up the xrEngine thing. It gives me a fatal error and simply will close out. I'm not sure if maybe I'm putting the files somewhere wrong or what it could be

Not to resurrect this thread but how did you get this to work? I am trying to install the same mod and as someone with limited knowledge as well those instructions are worthless.

There is no base folder, just 4 .rar files that I have. No optionals folder. The bin folder is just bin, not bin_x64. The XRengine has no target parameter to modify so the entire thing will not launch.

Are you going to detail how you got this to work???? Maybe so others like myself can do whatever you did to successfully install it???

Having installed this mod recently, there is very little you need to do on your end:

Create a new folder.
Move the .zip you downloaded to the new folder.
Unpack the zip, follow prompts if any
game executable is xrEngine.exe in bin_x64 and it already has the parameter added to the command line. Launch xrEngine.exe from the directory or create a shotrcut on the desktop.

The mod does not have english voice by default. You will need to change the folder name of the "sounds" folder (or delete it, but changing it works too) in gamedata and rename the sound folder that would lead you to believe it is the english VO to just "sounds"

ez pz.

If you want the optional patch that enables mousewheel weapon scrolling, unpack the gamedata folder in the .zip to the location and main folder of whatever you installed the main mod.

I was confused initially after downloading the 5GB mod and tried tracking down more in-depth installation instructions and found them on reddit pretty easily, but realized its not that in-depth and it's a standalone mod. Thus my confusion was somewhat lifted.

But yeah, if you find out how to fix the thing you're posting about in the first place, FOLLOW-UP WITH THE ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ FIX!

So i did all this, and either it gives me the missing openal32.dll error or it gives me (0xc000007b). the shortcut target is already set to the correct steam directory, and im failing to find anything else i could possibly be doing wrong, after several fresh installs and reading through several differnt versions of the same instructions. losin my mind a bit here ngl. the game itself is in the correct update (1.0006) and, shortcut or not, xrEngine fails to do its job in opening the game. have tried it in both the motz folder i created for the zip as well as the one in the steam library folders and am simply at my wits end

Have you found any fix for this? I am really desperate right now.
