im using zrp, but im on my second, to the end, playthru. I got zrp so i dont get any real crashes. it changes a few things, but not as much as complete, or other mods. i just dont use the extra mods.
If you haven't already started up the game yet, I suggest you play the vanilla version first.
If vanilla actually runs then start with that just so you get a taste of the game first. Then you can decide what you want with different mods to change that experience.
bare bones zrp install, the game wont be broken if you decide to explore every nook

you should. it's more of a patch full of bugfixes then a mod
yeah play through soc vanilla in 2019, enjoy finding your first 5x45mm weapon and have it take out no helmet stalkers in 6 hits, if you're lucky...

bullet sponge stalkers, bullet sponge mutants, paired with AI that is by default set to spot you through walls and be instantly confused by transparent objects like foliage... yeah, play through stalker soc in 2019 and immediately reserve the stalker community to sadistic lunatics who think none existant game design is "immersive"

What difficulty are you playing on? Difficulty affects bullet damage across the board instead of modifying HP. So higher difficulties mean it’s more likely for the player to die in 2 shots, but same goes for the enemy. Always play on Master because of this; it’s a weird design decision but I enjoy it personally.

For mutants, use a shotgun. Puts em down easy enough.

AI doesn’t see through walls, but they can hear you. What, you think 50-ish lb of gear doesn’t make a sound when you walk?

For the OP, yes. ZRP fixes bugs without changing much. It’s worth it to get it.

hit_probability_gd_novice = 0.20
hit_probability_gd_stalker = 0.30
hit_probability_gd_veteran = 0.40
hit_probability_gd_master = 0.50

Yeah, so on master you're more likely to hit someone with a well placed shot than to miss entirely.

If you're still facing bullet sponge enemies on Master, you may be using regular ammo against heavily armored targets. Use AP ammo for those guys.

feels bad to hijack the thread for my salty endeavours in stalker, but im in garbage fighting bandits with AP 5x45, they are eating bullets like they're going out of fashion

best part is ive changed master hit prob to 1.0

The issue is that bandits aren't well armored. AP rounds are designed to slice through armor; not to cause tissue damage. Because of this, it does great amounts of damage to exoskeleton armored users, but you are using them against targets wearing literally leather jackets. Save your AP rounds and use normal rounds.
you'd figure ammo capable of punching through plate armour would have similar effects punching through un armoured skulls, logic

No, it happens in real life too. Armor piercing rounds go straight through bodies; useful if it hits a vital organ, otherwise it just goes through. Normal rounds (or Hollowpoint rounds) shatter inside the body once it enters causing mass pain. Even if it doesn't hit an organ, it provides massive stopping power. The 5.56 round is famous for this IRL.
