That pseudodog tail quest

OK, so this quest is a terrible way to start the game. I've spent at least an hour looking for one and not found one.

I did take out at least one pseudodog, but it didn't give a tail.

I'm thinking of abandoning the quest now.

I'm pretty sure I've ran everywhere I can at least twice over by now, anyway.

Its a side quest that happens when it happens. Sooner or later you get one.

Yeah, don’t dedicate so much effort into a quest based on RNG.

It's a timed quest that gives, I think, 1 day to complete it. So, there's some sense of urgency to getting it done.

But, I've been everywhere and not found a pseudodog tail. So, I'm just going to ignore it.

It's repeatable. You're better off getting the tail first as you play and then taking the quest once you have it.

Are all the timed contract quests that aren't finished in time repeatable? And once they're finished successfully do they not re-appear to do again later on?

To my knowledge, basically any quest that's part of the main story, doesn't have you killing a specific NPC, or has you retrieving a very specific one of a kind item isn't repeatable. Just about everything else is. Kill the stalker, bring in the artifact, bring in some mutant part, wipe out mutants/bandits, all of those are repeatable.

Well this is my 3rd playthrough and I have the quest and the tail, and I am unable to turn it in. I think I'll just drop it on the ground and pick it back up...

With a quest like that dont go out of your way looking for a rare mutant. Instead you may be lucky and randomly come across one in another mission and bam 2 birds with 1 stone. Or you may in fact already have the mutant part you need if you keep them stashed.

So I dropped the tail into that stash box near the trader who initially saved me. And now I found another tail and I still can't turn it in. Sigh. So I refused it and if he ever gives it again, well, I already have the tail in the box.

Hopefully S.T.A.L.K.E.R. 2 will be less buggy!

Are you sure its a Pseudo Dog tail and not just a regular dog tail?>

Pseudo Dogs are pretty rare there might be 1 or 2 as the alphas in a pack of dogs rarely. They send mirror duplicates of themselves at you and can split into 4 or so entities. Killing the main Pseudo dog will kill all of its images.

Wait, I am not 100% sure! I only started searching canine corpses once I got the quest... I'll have to go get a look... Thanks for this.
