Lost Alpha is the best standalone stalker game at the moment, it maybe has performance issues but its the most stable and has the best graphics
Stalkersoup and Call of Chernobyl are 2 others and are great in there own ways too but they are still work in progress by the developers
Lost Alpha is, itself misleading. It does not resemble the original build for the game in any way. It is, like Misery, StalkerSoup, etc, just one more fan-reimagining. Is it fantastic? Absolutely! Does it completely change the tone and feel of the game? Absolutely.
Part of Stalker's charm is that is wasn't an RPG in the traditional sense, but in the actual sense. I didn't complete missions or kill enemies and "level up" or have my character develop skills. I completed missions, killed enemies, explored, etc and I, in real life, learned more about this world my character inhabited and got better at surviving. I learned which noises meant what and habitats certain creatures prefered. I learned (and slowly acquired) the best weapons and tools for the job. I learned about artifacts and anomolies, how to identify them and live with them. It was a game where I grew and learned things... not my character. Mods that move it closer to a traditional "open world RPG" really miss the point of what helped make the game special, I think. It was always meant to be a horror-shooter with an environment that required you to learn, adapt and survive. Not an RPG.
Nah, stalker v 1.000 is crap.
indeed it was, I remember playing the very first version of SOC, the worst problem was Pripyat map corrupting your gamesaves, I made several backups at the end of Radar because of it
