Essential Mods For a New Player
Just picked the game up a few days ago and I'm already loving it, yet I can't help but feel like modding it out could make it even better. Is there a list of mods that would help improve the game's experience, like graphical overhauls or something? Thanks.

First playthroughs always should be done in vanilla.

i suddgest getting the "stalker complete 2009" mod, this mod overhauls the general graphics of the game as well fixing several bugs in the game. but for some reason this is the only mod i have and it always crashes upon launch i have tried everything the developers say i should do including uninstalling the game and uninstalling the mod but nothing seems to fix this problem. im sorry to say it but, the game is great and all but the technical issues in the game overburden it as a hole.

Sounds like the mod, not the game. Also, ZRP is better than Complete as complete just makes the game easier.

Yeah never use Complete. It ruins far, far more than it fixes.

for a first time player, go through it vanilla, and then if you want to mod don't mod the original game at all, download STALKERSOUP or Lost Alpha Directors Cut or Call of Chernobyl all 3 are community built free standalone games.

ZRP Zone Reclamation Project, if you really want to use mods on your first run - it mostly fixes bugs and offers some extra optional goodies

Anyone that tells you to play vanilla over a bug free game is a moron. If you want the best experience grab the ZRP mod for the unofficial patch. If you want an experience that's more beginner friendly that fixes bugs and lightly enhances features and improves graphics you'd be better with the complete mod.

Playing vanilla first is completely unnessary, you don't want your first experience to be full of crashing, bugs, wacky FOV and other oddities.

vanilla isn't as bad as you say, just like complete isn't a "light enhance of features" since blind enemies and increased weight limit make it easy mode, incredibly so in early game as well (+ it needs a submod to have a decent gunplay system, which tells a lot about complete)

I'd recommend Zone Reclamation Project, any visual mods, and maybe a repair kit mod. The game features durability for weapons yet no way to actually fix them. As a result, unique weapons have a finite amount of uses before becoming permanently useless.

The first one doesnt have weapon mods or repair? Aw. I loved that about the 3rd one.

No weapon mods at all nor detectors. Not that it's a problem. The lack of ability to repair is, though so get a mod to repair your weapons.

if it's zrp you're talking about, it does have an optional repair submod, which allows a couple of NPCs to repair your equipment

Speak for yourself, I've played through vanilla plenty of times without bugs or crashes.

Oh ♥♥♥♥ you want a medal buddy? God let's just open up google and check how many people share that experience..

Oh looks like some of the fanboys for the game consider the various bugs "features" at this point since so many exist.

Uhh... are you okay?

Most of the bugs and crashes depend on what you do in game btw.
