I believe you can get that stuff repaired at either DUTY or FREEDOM Base, but it's been so long that I can't remember. There are certain mods that give traders armour and weapon repair kits, though.

In Vanilla you can't repair weapons. Repairing armor is tricky but not too difficult once you reach the late game. For weapons I'd just recommend getting a mini-mod the simply makes weapons not degrade. I only use such a mod for unique weapons, as non-unique weapons are easily replaceable. As for armor, what you should do is collect battery artifacts which provide +30% resistance against chemical damage, electric damage, fire damage, or fall damage. Once you have four of those (+120% resistance to a certain type of damage), you go stand in the designated type of damage, and instead of hurting you and damaging your armor, it will heal you and repair your armor. The best to collect are the flame batteries since there are fire anomalies, and simple fireplaces everywhere for you to make repairs.

Just dont' fix them at all, gives more realism and difficulty.

Nothing realistic about not fixing stuff.

Well if you think about it, fixing stuff in post apocalyptic (not sure is it spelled right) might not be as easy as non apocalyptic place.

Well resources are scarce...so you're going to have to learn to fix stuff.

In the vanilla game you can't repair the armor by going to someone, but you can actually repair it with a glitch,if you get 4 battery artifacts you can actually step and stay on an electro anomaly,it will repair your armor
