As for armor, the SKAT-9M is also very good for radiation and bulletproofing. You can find one for free in the hotel stash in Pripyat.
My earliest hard save was right at the entrance to Chernobyl NPP and I didn't feel like running all the way through Pripyat, the Red Forest, and the Military Warehouses just to go to the bar and stock up on drugs.
Honestly I got tired of trying at that point and just looked up all the possible endings since in my eyes I would have already beaten the game if I had just brought more damn antirad drugs.
I kind of expected the 90% radiation resist to greatly lower the amount of radiation I was getting fed but I was using the antirad left and right.
And yes I was wearing the SSP-99M suit whenever I wasn't getting shot at and I would switch back to the exoskeleton whenever I spotted monoliths.
