Advice from the experts on truck depot route management.
I need help from players that actually understand the best way to set truck line routes to depots to get the best efficiency out of them.
I understand when you setup a line to a depot it creates a path where the trucks go and at first I thought that trucks would just pick up item as long as there was something there.I was wrong because depending on where the items are stored at the depot the trucks will not pick up item even if it's the same items they need.
I'm sure that I just need to setup right or maybe it's a bug but I haven't been able to get it working 100% of the time.
Could someone please explain why there are inner and outer circles being created as well as inside, outside only circles created as well.
I noticed if you keep clicking the depot eventually every route is made but is that how it works,or even efficient?

well just because its in a depot doesnt mean that the truck line (lets say supply to wotton city) is in demand of that item. click the depot and youll notice itll say how much goods are waiting on to what exact line it wants. id advice making 1 truck depot for 1 line as when you start getting really ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ busy in the later years they tend to pile up and gridlock. having 1 line to 1 depot prevents that issue. also a truck wont deliver goods just because its connected to a city. the city must demand that resource for the production to assign amounts of resources to that line. best thing to do is see what line wants the resources more and ensure you are keeping on top of demand so that there isnt a ridiculous amount of resources waiting.

One of the common refrains you'll hear on the forums: Transport is demand driven (or some variation thereof).

The players goal job in this game is not to move goods around, it is to provide a transportation service that allows other people to move goods around. It's a very important distinction.

Goods will only travel in your vehicles to get to someplace that wants them. All supply chains must start with the raw materials that come from places like quarries, which only produce, and end with the commercial or industrial buildings in a city, which only consume.

Intermediary facilities like the saw mill can provide demand on their own for a short time, until their internal inventory is full of output, but a supply chain can only continue to operate once it is complete, from raw material to city.

As for truck stations, depending on the size, they have 2 or 4 platforms, which are separate inventories. If possible, new lines will be directed to an unused platform, or if they are all in use, the least used platform.

In a nutshell, nothing is being shipped because you are assuming the movement of goods is supply driven, when it is actually demand driven. You need to set up a complete network of transport lines. Also note than vehicles must travel a new line for bit (usually they need to visit every stop) before it will start to work, so even once you are set up properly, it could be a while before things start to work.

You guys totally missed my question.I'm not asking about demand for goods,I understand that.
I'm talking about the different routes in a truck depot that are created when clicking on it and again and again. If you haven't discovered this then you don't know what I'm talking about.
I have demand for goods from depot because some trucks pick it up however others on a diferent route inside the depot aren't but I want to know why or how to setup.

Is it possible that trucks picking stuff up use the outside loop and trucks dropping off use the inside route? I know that for me trucks picking up use the outside loop and sometimes have to wait to load, which causes other trucks picking up have to wait also, but trucks dropping off drive around them to the inside platform and drop off without having to wait.

I understand what you mean. I have the same issue. Basically the game assigns random platform in the depo for every line and the factory seems to just randomy distribute the goods betwen the platforms in use. I was asking about the same here and a staff member said that its not possible to assign specific platforms in stations. I tried assigning the same station several times until the platform i wanted gets in use for the line but once you delete the other stations in the line management the game just randomizes the lines in the station again. And i dont think there is anything you can do on how the game distributes goods on the station.
