300Km/h TGV useless
Seriously? All I need is a 10km straight and flat track. That thing is useless!
In normal intercity use it reaches not more then 200km/h.

I think it needs a rebalance.

Pretty sure at least a portion of your problem is trying to combine "TGV" and "normal intercity use."

Have to agree with Landwalker. The TGV in reality has routes from Paris to Amsterdam or Paris to Berlin. Things like that. It barely has lines inside France, let alone normal intercity routes. It is the definition of express route. It's a really fast train, and trains take a while to reach top speed. Give it a longer stretch of track.

I have yet to try it in this game, but if it is the same as it was in Train Fever then I am inclined to agree that it isn't well balanced. I tried it once in Train Fever on a medium map going diagonally across from town in one corner to a town close to the opposite corner and all very straight and flat the whole way. Still never reached 300kph.

Will give it a whirl on my large 1:2 map and see how it goes once I get it. Only 1917 atm so will be a while yet. Am thinking of trying a rim job :P ahem... Having the train go around the edge of the map visiting cities ony at the 4 corners...

TGV is well balanced. The maps are just small. Try the experimental map sizes, if your computer allows them

I did manage to get a TGV to 300kmh, albiet only for 10 seconds

When I played the EU mission with the TFV, it had no problem reaching 300km/h and it made a nice profit. So the balance is definately improved compared to Train Fever.

The problem lies in that the longer TGVs, while have higher capacity, still have the same power and weigh a lot more. Thus, the longer ones will take longer to accelerate up to full speed.

Heck, on my map, the normal TGV loses speed going up an incline at 300
Robbedem Dec 23, 2016 @ 12:28am
Yes, that's true. I think the long TFV is indeed rather useless and it would be better to have a version between the current short and normal version instead.

It makes a nice profit. I'm playing on a medium map and use it as a city to city express wich skips the smaller towns so it has a pretty long route without stops infront of it. But it only gets to 205km/h till it has to slow down again.
I built a tunnel across the whole map and it almost has to travel half the map diagonal to reach its speed.

I've medium sized city in mountains like 300m and on trip down it is able to reach 300km/h quite easily, trip is to barely center of the map (large)

The problem for me is that its supposed to be the topnotch of trains. But if I don't have a extremly long perfect route with no inclination it looses against some "normal" passenger train. And the passenger train is cheaper.

Just a correction, the TGV only runs inside France, from Paris to Amsterdam you do have high-speed trains, but there is only high-speed track from Brussels to Paris so it's doesnt reach super-high speeds on the other parts of the track.

So, although Transport Fever isnt meant as a simulation, the difficutltiy to get TGV's perform at max level are in a way quite realistic :)

Correction on my correction: i just googled, and amsterdam - paris trains via Thalys, although technically not TGV, are capable of 300km/h. However, still not high-speed track everywhere.

I use a long large map. 1in3? Its about how you build the track. Its much trickier than you think. As in real life track has to be flat or very gentle gradients. I now spend much more time track building and using terrain tools. You can achieve long 300km/h runs. I am in throws of making a video together.

Re: Thalys, Paris -> Amsterdam, Dutch section, except around Rotterdam and between Schiphol and Amsterdam is definitely 300km/h.

On a large map, I've struggled to get the TFV to 300 km/h for more than a few seconds - never tried the longest size.

I'm now on an experimental map size and it's much larger, so hoping to see more 300km/h when I get to the 1980s.
