My GUESS(notice how it's emphasized) is that the characters are meant to be from the similar regions so they can fit together in the lore in some way.

Wut I thought Lian was Spanish

Lian looks to be of chinese orign with her clothings design and pattern, hairstyle, and if you really look at her facial strucutre for her teaser you can see it quite clearly.
That and I think her name has chinese origns as well.
As for having asian characters I honestly dont know but I really dont care, diversity is cool...it also kinda gives a feel of a global war.

Sometimes creativity are very limited and let say they want to make an eastern nation / country in Paladins they just reference chinese and asian culture and improvise by that. Many fictions do that.

Asian culture is very diverse, and allows for a lot of varied designs. Up until now, most characters have had a European feel to them, so using a new reference just makes the game feel more diverse.

Lian looks like a white girl wearing asian style clothes to me.

From my research, it looks like House Aico is inspired by the name Aiko/Ayko which is an old Gentry name used in Germany and Scandanavia. Her main name Lian however is chinese in origin as is a large amount of her dress. I speculate that this means either that her mother is from the asian nobility or that she has adopted the name as a pseudonym while operating out of the asian region.

The two regions seem to be linked to one another as can be seen with cultural transfer examples like how Buck's clothing and forehead sigil is inspired by Buddhist monks and Ying wearing more asian style dress.
