the game is worth it?
I've never been able to buy Conan Exiles and I was wondering if the game was still worth it in 2024 (and if I could play it solo, unlike rust, which is horrible to play alone)

(and also to find out how the wipe system works, I'm too lazy to know if it's the same as on rust or day-z)

It was, pre-Sorcery.

Since then Funcom has gotten all Battlepass and trying to milk the cow dry.
Wonder if they are trying to kill the game hoping players will jump into Dune instead...

In my opinion, not worth anymore. They totaly ruined it by ruining the Thrall ability to fight and defend your building.

They Ruined armors and bonus on them.

They ruined the fun PVE players had. And not even sure PVP players are happy either

Bingo. It was 100% worth it until sorcery. Now it's not. They even removed precise splitting of stacks in the most recent update because the developers somehow don't understand that players might want to take 25 items out of a stack of 1000. Now you can only cut stacks in half... no one asked for this function to be removed, it wasn't causing issues or bugs, it was something players used all the time but Funcom decided we didn't need it. They *ARE* partially reverting this mess because of the player uproar over the change but they should never have changed it in the first place. They didn't listen to player feedback about the changes on the test server, implemented it, and now 99% of the player base is mad about it. They are putting a split function back but it sounds like it won't be the same one we had - and that's what we want back, the exact function we had before.

Honestly the whole control and UI change in this last update makes me want to tell anyone who is thinking about buying Conan Exiles not to buy it because Funcom is ruining the game, the UI overhaul has been a big letdown, the new control system isn't better than the old one at all, and the removal of an essential function like precise stack splitting just shows how out of touch the Funcom devs have become. Conan Exiles is a pale shadow of what it once was and it just keeps getting worse. I would highly recommend you spend your cash elsewhere, Alex, unless you do some serious research into what this game has become and you know exactly what you're getting into. Honestly don't think Conan Exiles will be around much longer if Funcom doesn't start listening to the players.

I like the game, its colorfull, dynamics and fun.
I think the farm isnttoo much (well, a lot of stone and wood in the begin) but i always fell like spent more time travelling and fighting than knocking down tree and rocks.
With the new chest balance whe find more usefull ressource, whe can loot usefull items.
Fight are sometime a bit messy but must of the time they fell nice. They are enough weapons to find something fitting your playstyle.
Building system isnt the best but whe can make really nice lookng mansion/castle/village/cabin.....

Season pass add new fontions and new cosmetics (armor, weapons and placeable items)

I only play solo on my solo game. I havent to fear decay or anything because my map is saved on my computer but friend can join and whe can play together (but, whe have to stay near the host : if you go too far, the game teleport you on the host, and the world only live near the hos too).
Im able to reach all the challenge the game can launch at me. Sometime its pretty hard ( because it smade for a team, not a solo player) but its possible.
You can play by your own on a server if you want, but you have to log for avoid decay. On my solo game, if i dont want to play for 6 month, everything will be here when i launch the game again.

BUT : a new release was done, i suggest you to wait a bit before playing -> "Patch day, no play"

I have a very large amount of fun just gathering resources and building. We have a small private server themed just around that. It really depends on what you like to do.

It was when they were used to drop DLCs regularily. It is no more when they moved to internal shop with out of mind price tags.

At the moment? It's not worth a single penny. All it'll do for you is waste your time. Move on.

It's worth it but as people have said, the recent changes have kinda sucked. However, the game is still amazing and has some of the best pvp out there. Its just not as good as it was before sorcery. They made everything a lot easier now which is my main gripe. Combat builds are a little more simple than they used to be and gear isn't as interesting but overall its an incredible game in spite of all the changes in the last year or so.

The game is fine solo. Solo creates a game on your computer (although it likes to connect to Funcom) so there is no wipe. You can do almost everything a clan on a server can but things like building with top tier blocks takes a long time to grind.
Unlike on official servers when you are bored (or just before you've finished the quest to leave the exile lands) you can create a copy of your character on the second map, Siptah (and copy back and forth whenever you want of run 2 separate games).
There's a lot more interesting things to do there such as the vaults.
Battlepasses, dlc and the cash shop (Bazaar) are completely optional and only interesting if you are into cosmetics.
The only drawback with the game is the developers keep messing with it, the latest Season that started 2 days ago is so bugged the game is almost unplayable for some and completely unplayable for others. I think to fix the last Season the update took over a month to arrive.
As an aside I refunded Rust after 2 hours of trying to play it solo and even with the bugs making the game constantly unplayable I have 1500 hours here, all solo.

@OP: just remember, most people complaining about the game complain about changes made (that, and bugs present since release :P) over time, like saying "it was worth it pre-sorcery" does not reallly carry any weight for someone who has not been there and starts out with the game at the current state.

So, in itself, at the current state, I'd say the game is definetly worth it, depending of what you want.
You can definetly play the game solo, as you can adjust most parameters to your liking.
If you want a Conan-style world to explore and "conquer", I think this game offers alot, a big, diverse world, plenty of building and armor/weapon styles (well, if you get the corresponding DLCs), both for exploration and building, be it solo or coop, the game is worth it. Moreso with all the mods you can use to spice up the gameplay/content.

The base game is fine, you can play it solo easily unlike Rust. You don't need the dlc stuff or the battle pass. Definitely get it when it is on sale though.

Beyond that, it is hard to recommend the rest of the game these days given all the problems with the past few patches and the battle pass stuff.
AnimeMayhem Apr 5, 2024 @ 10:51am
Game still has a lot of interesting things about it, and goes on sale often enough that you can get it at a reduced price fairly easily. Just don't play at the start of a new major update like we have right now - wait at least a couple weeks so some patches are in to fix the worst of the "updates." The biggest detriment to your enjoyment of this game is not gameplay (pre-sorcery, post-sorcery, blah blah blah) but the devs.

With all Funcom games its better to enter under the assumption that the game is in a perpetual state of early access even if they don't sell it that way. Because it is.

"worth it" is a subjective thing but IMHO, Conan Exiles is the best of the more popular sandbox survival games such Valheim, Ark, SotF, 7D2D, etc. Most fluid combat (especially mounted), great animations, beautiful models, big map with multiple biomes/themes, good AI companions (lots of variety), decent building (but not the best), tons of decor/props, and loads of content to keep you busy. Still, it's not without its issues, especially when new updates break/nerf stuff but right out of the gate as a new player, you won't know the difference anyway :)
Lucas Trask Apr 5, 2024 @ 1:12pm
No. The game is unplayable with the most recent botched update.
