The greatest weakness of the katana is that there's barely any legendary versions on the original Exiled Lands map. It's going to be a gigantic blow to katana users when Musashi's black blade is no longer repairable in Age of War, given the low percent chance of getting another. But at least there's a chance, unlike with shortswords and claw/katar weapons.
BOOOOOOO !!!!!
;)
And it's actually a first for me - normally in games I don't use this weapon type.
My personal favourite is Axe Shield but I usually have a backup Mace as well which I also like.
Wait what?
I thought crafting legends was getting canned not repairing them.. are they removing legendary repair kits?
That's going to suck major a** if they do that..
At the very least they better significantly increase the durability on legendary weapons if you can't repair them anymore.
Like 3-5 times what they currently have AT LEAST!!!
Oh yeah and remove that durability loss whenever you slap a mod on them to.
They're legendary weapons after all, so they better bloody feel like it.
You will have to to think strategically if you want to use them on your character.
I think it's a good change. Compared to the current weapons set where bladesmith weapons are better than the legendaries, this feels better. Some of the crafted weapons have been nerfed too far, but there will be a real difference when you and your thrall are using a legendary weapon.
AoS Musashi's Black Blade: 60 dmg 13% pen 1350 dur 4.38 wgt
AoW Musashi's Black Blade: 74 dmg 13% pen 2700 dur 4.38 wgt + cripple on any hit
AoS T4 Bladesmith-crafted Epic Katana: 59 12% 1526.8 3.26
AoW T4 Bladesmith-crafted Epic Katana: 53 12% 1174.5 3.64
So what was once a 1 dmg difference between legendary and crafted is now a 21 dmg difference plus cripple, much more durability and slightly less weight penalty than before.
The problem is not that these new legendary weapons aren't repairable. That's a fair trade for how buff they are, even moreso because most NPCs have had their health greatly reduced. For example, the Red Mother's health has been decreased from 18,717 to just 8,265, and the Giant Croc's from 12,160 to 5,269. (Note however that some dungeon bosses got their health increased instead.)
The problem here is that this change makes certain weapon classes unplayable on the original Exiled Lands map, or at least not playable without putting yourself at a huge disadvantage, because some weapon classes have few or no legendary versions that can be acquired in the Exiled Lands. Katana is one of those weapon classes.
For example, the Legendary Chests that you can open with Skeleton Keys have a chance of giving you 1 of 47 different weapons, of which:
5 are swords
5 are two-handed swords
5 are axes
5 are maces
5 are two-handed hammers
5 are bows
5 are daggers
5 are spears
5 are shields
1 is a truncheon
1 is a katana
0 are shortswords, two-handed axes, claws, katars, or javelins.
So if you prefer any of the weapon classes that have 5 possible drops, then on average you're only going to have to open 9 or 10 chests to get something you want. Plus there's tons of other bosses you can kill for those weapons. So you will probably acquire a replacement for your legendary weapon before it breaks.
But if you prefer katanas, then on average you will need to open 47 chests to replace your katana, and there are no other legendary katanas on the Exiled Lands map except the one that drops from the Red Mother that's only useful against extremely highly armored enemies. But that's still better than shortsword, for which there's just nothing anywhere in the Exiled Lands at all, they're all on Siptah.
So unless you want to play at a huge damage deficit, you are going to have to abandon katanas and shortswords in the Exiled Lands and use one of the privileged weapon classes instead.
Which means if you're an Agility Build, like, I am, your better choice / ONLY choice is gonna be daggers. <sigh>
I didn't know Exiled Lands had such a disbalance for legendary agility swords, wasn't even aware there were no short swords on the map..
Funcom need to fix that for sure, even if it's just dumping a bunch of Siptah weapons into the loot table.
Although personally I would really like the ability to travel between maps in the single player game, allow players to take their characters, thralls/pets and items between Exiled Lands and Siptah, surely there's a way to implement that somehow.
Unofficial servers have ways to do it, not sure about official but as far as I know Single Player players don't have that option.
I'd be far more willing to travel maps to collects items and pets than I would be to just spawn them in on Exiled Lands, which is what I currently have to do if I want Siptah creatures there.
Agility characters are not limited to daggers. in AoW, Baal-petor's Razor is an agility weapon. There may be other legendary weapons that changed from strength to agility.
Yes, there's at least 2 two-handed swords, 1 one-handed sword, 1 two-handed hammer, and 2 spears which favor agility in the Age of War update that are available in the Exiled Lands. And on the flip side there's at least 3 bows which favor strength. So the Agility vs Strength situation isn't a complete disaster. It's far from equal, but it's salvageable for people who prefer Agility.
It's more a matter of entire weapon classes having little or no representation among the legendary weapons available in the Exiled Lands, and all but one of them (two handed axes) are agility weapons. Having the option to use a two-handed sword with an agility build is nice, but only a katana lets you do katana stuff. And I imagine even if we got more legendary katanas in the Exiled Lands, some of them would favor strength, which to be fair is reasonable. A strength katana is something the Exiled Lands should have too if we're going to have two-handed swords and two-handed hammers as agility weapons.
This is the way.
I have spoken.
Well, bad news/good news/bad news...
Bad News: Specter's Bane isn't a shortsword, it's a classic one-handed sword.
Good News: Specter's Bane doesn't exist in the current build of the game, it's something brand new to Age of War. And if they've added that to the loot tables of the Unnamed City bosses (which I can confirm they have after just now testing), then they may have added other things.
Bad News: Nothing else on the spawnable Gear list jumps out to me as new. Normally when they add new gear it's in a clump by itself, but Specter's Bane was inserted in with the usual Unnamed City loot like it'd always been there.
Also, having taken a closer look at the Siptah loot, I can only confirm 2 legendary shortswords and 3 legendary katanas unless they snuck in something with a shortsword or katana moveset that doesn't look like a shortsword or katana, and 1 of those katanas doesn't really have the stats of a legendary unless it has a hidden ability I can't figure out. All the other current legendary shortswords and katanas on Siptah have been demoted to non-legendaries. That having been said, the 2 good shortswords and 2 good katanas each have a 17.5% chance of dropping from relatively easy bosses, so it's not nearly as bad as the 2% chance of getting the only good katana in the Exiled Lands from a chest unlocked with a skeleton key, or the 0% chance of getting a legendary shortsword.
