Building Hammer
Don't know about anyone else but I really dislike this thing. It makes building far more fiddley than necessary. Esp when you just want to check the materials needed to craft something. Wish we could toggle it off.

More fiddly than having to rework your toolbar every time you want to use different building pieces? Stealing the to-do list from Satisfactory would solve the materials tracking problem.

Yeah, that would probably help. I don't mind it so much for the building pieces but I really dislike it for the crafting stations.

I like how they've categorised everything. Having everything in one window was overwhelming, and taxing on my eyes TBH. I'd still love to disable all the DLC items that clog things up when I don't have them. I know they exist, and it's made known outside the game, so I don't need it in my game.

here to disagree, having everything on one window is a good thing because you don't have to hop around in submenus to find what you want as you can just see everything immediately with no actions needed

what they should do is therefore to show everything on one window AND categorize on that one window so that you can still see all the things but separated by category to more easily distinguish them, also why is it so hard to tell which crafting station is which, all they need to do is group them in lists and put a slightly larger space between these groups and rest of items so you can see "oh here are 3 blacksmith benches I can build, and here 3 tanneries"

like you have to click on each of these "smithing" "carpentry" submenus when they could just show all of them one below the other at same time without having to click anything

also why are we stuck with tiny windows anyways, a lot of screen space is wasted by only having tiny grids inside them, such as in player crafting menu being 5x5 when it can fit like 10x10 or larger and not need to scroll to see everything, not to mention the inventory itself

With the old system I could just prepare everything before starting to build, then put ALL the pieces I need on the hotbar and start building. Now it is open menu -> select building piece -> place -> open menu -> select next piece -> place -> repeat a million times. Also no searchbox or way to see same piece in different styles at once. Before I could just take a glace at all the roofs at once and decide which one I want.. now I have to jump between menus with no way to directly compare the pieces.

This means I am no longer able to do large building projects because I have arthritis and all the added clicking and key pressing makes building literally painful. I used to do large bases with dedicated rooms and decorations. Now my base is a basic 2 floor 3x5 rectangle where I've just tossed all crafting benches and storage boxes with a bed in one corner. So yeah, you could say I hate the new building system and would love to see an option to use the old system instead.

Aim at piece you're wanting to switch back to, and middle click. It will put the piece you're aiming at as your construction part. For large projects this is extremely essential and far better than filling your hotbar with blocks and having to switch between them all the time.

I am aware of this function, but it only works if I've already placed the type of piece I want to switch to so it doesn't really help me much.

my main complaint about the new building system is the fact that instead of carrying specific pieces/stations was far less tedious than having to carry thousands of different resources to build anything. makes it really irritating to move bases, especially long distances. you need a beast of burden just to make the trip worth it in most cases, even then you still have to make multiple trips.

Building pieces keep switching like they have a mind of their own. Always have to press F (um… fitting, ain’t it) to go back and select the right piece again… and again…
Need to move a workbench so you could change your layout a bit? Have to scrap it and hope you don’t accidentally use the mats on something else.

You can move workbenches and chests without scrapping them. If you are going too far you may have to temporarily place it down and move it again, but moving them within a base location is possible. Open up the radial menu for a bench or chest and there is a move option.
