Yeah I know. But it would indeed expand the scope of the game.
If there isn't any magic, sorcery or necromancy. Where are these sand storms, un-dead and magical items coming from ?
Imps, wraiths, skeletons, Razma's mask, and other things.
Cmon, seriously aren't Giant Walking Avatars of Gods enough? Granted they only work weekends between the hours of 6pm and 10pm but hey......They're Avatars baby....
That involves summoning and sorcery. To a lesser degree is any magic that we're accustomed to in other MMOs (such as Guild Wars 2) used currently.
Before the expansion of the Northlands, except for the Imps these things did not exist.
The Devs had to come up with something due to popular request.
The imps are a sad race of degenerates made that way by/for Hanuman (a curse or a blessing). Read the prayer to Hanuman.
Skeletons and the glowing skeletons (wraiths) are the cursed, restless undead remnants of those who existed during the age of the war between the hosts of the lands and the humans which included remnants of Lemuria and apparently Atlantis from ages long past due to a discovery in the volcano of the remnants of Valusia. That in turn led to the war.
Razma's Mask (mask of the Witch Queen of Lemuria) as well as the other items needed to assemble the keystone were infused with a **powerful magic which produced the bracelets we are bound with and is the only thing, once assembled which can unlock the bracelets.
Mask of the Witch Queen, The *reformed Scourge Stone, Diadem of the Priest King (Giant King?), Star of the Champion, Tears of Two Races and the Shining Trapezohedron. (simply quest items for those who need objectives to complete). Hey, players wanted it and they got it, although not quite what they were expecting. Yet, instead of "free handed magic spells" we have definitive objects into which these "powers" were infused.
The serpent in the volcano whom you confront for the Shining Trapezohedron uses a staff of summoning to call spectral minions to do his fighting for him.
The Sand Storm was brought about by summoning (called a powerful magic spell but harnessed into a **single artifact which was shattered in the process) to counter an apparent threat of a **powerful weapon made by the tribes of the north which Klael describes.
**Powerful Magics could have very well been more the result of developments by the technologically advanced civilizations who were once the Atlantis and Lemuria before the cataclysm. (The Thurian Age) with cooperation of the hosts of the lands. The hosts were there in the "Exiled Lands" before, during and after the cataclysm took place.
Think of it. Bracelets which act more like Star Trek Universal Translators and allowed for rapid transport between places on the map (Teleportation). Sound familiar?. Sure seems like advanced technology to me.
Since the cataclysm, humanity was basically thrown back into a stone age save for a little bit of left over technology from the previous civilizations. Now the Hyborian Age.
In one of the rooms of the sunken city, we find evidence of an extremely advanced technology which hints at what the once great civilizations were capable of. Through listening to the voices (or voice) ... what they did do or perhaps where some of them went. That isn't magic.
We have a mixture of Technology, Alchemy and Science Fiction with a little bit of summoning.
Still doesn't answer the question as to why you can't make a mage or sorcerer. In Howard's books you had both aplenty.
Now, who knows. Some people claim alchemy is close enough to sorcery, so promise fulfilled via throwing orbs. You could also argue snake arrows count as sorcery.
It may still come some day though, considering they finally delivered on mounts.
Yeah it was suppose to be like ESO with vast areas to explore. But it took years to get another map expansion.
Uh, what? Conan Exiles was never meant to be an MMO. Not sure where you got that impression or idea.
But, since then, no news about this that I know.
Meanwhile : Combat was re-worked, a bunch of mandatory steps were added in order to craft a lot of things and : the 'Purge', mounts, Animal taming, Thralls leveling... And a whole lot of over-priced DLCs...
But, nothing about Sorcery.
is archery fixed and viable now? can you make a pure archer build?
