Freezing in Fur?
Hi

I finally went to hunt Gorillas and got 400 fur, so I could finally make some fur armor.
I made 2 sets, the Vanir Settlers armor and a set of the heavy armor.

I headed north, as I've done in the past and I soon noticed that I was in the freezing mode.

I turned and ran south to the water and tried to swim back to the southern side but I froze a third of the way across.

Fortunately I was able to recover my stuff swimming out from the southern side.

I tried again and quickly retreated, so I built a base in the cliffs on the southern side, once done I installed a tram across the straight from south to north.

As soon a I get to the northern side my health starts to go down.

If I don't reverse quickly I would die.

What's going on?

In the past I could put on fur armor and hike all over the northern area.

What do I have to do to managed the cold?

Mike

Use some cold gear + spiced food to raise your temp. Also invest into the perk for temp effects diminished

So the fur armor alone no longer protects you from the cold?
That's kind of a bummer.

A torch, while equipped, also raises your temperature. Theres also a perk that manages temperature, but im not sure exactly to what extent.

After the update where passive healt generation was removed there are regions in north near volcano and ice canyons where you can't survive even with the best fur armours alone, you need to have spiced food, torches and alcohol. Then again if you invest 30 points to vitality so that you get passive health regeneration buff you can run around in the north and even in the volcano butt naked.

What they said.

The armor alone isn't enough, even with the temperature resistance attribute. Spiced food is almost a must if you plan on spending anytime outdoors in the very cold, a torch helps when traveling but is obviously not going to be help when you need to equip a two handed weapon or shield. Certain alcoholic beverages help (careful, because some cool you down instead of warm you up, they also make you thirstier when they wear off). I actually prefer spiced tea. If it is mildly cold, you can still use your waterskin, but avoid that if it is really cold and go with the spiced tea.

It seems like the spiced food and warming drinks do not stack, but if you eat some spiced food and chase it with a warming drink, it works very nicely. Mulled brew, I think it is called, is non-alcoholic and warms you up.

If you swim in the really cold lakes, you are going to get very cold no matter what you do, you might have to chug a lot of warming stuff and eat spiced stuff while in the water. There are also a couple places that are almost impossible to keep warm enough and time has to be limited in order to not die. One of those places is the bridge that goes to the Black Keep, eat and drink and then run across. The Frost Giant temple is another place that you will need everything possible, to stay alive in the cold, even then you will be hovering at the lowest survivable cold on your temp gauge.

Its also good to work out which armors at which quality give better protection. For Cold I really prefer the cimmerian armor and Silent armor for the best heat protection. However looking up a armor guide gives way more and better advice like this one https://steamcommunity.com/sharedfiles/filedetails/?id=1426792402

I do agree with most posters above that carrying and using teas and spiced drinks to warm up and carrying and using ice to cool in volcano area.helps to boost what the appropriate armors do.

it used to work perfectly during EA
then they broke it and now fur clothes/armor is a joke
I used to freez to death without at least some fur clothes but now with only 30 vitility don't even need any to survive cold or heat anymore...
