Team Fortress 2
Tf2 Comic Analysis and Speculation
I've decided to go through all the canonical TF2 comics and do an analysis on the characters, settings, plots, and so on to have a research base for the new *mysterious* six issue comic series. I'll post my analyses in this thread and feel free to add your own opinions and ideas, or correct my own. Some things will be painfully obvious, but will be recorded for the sake of thoroughness.

Part 1 on the Saxton Hale comic book covers:
I finished my analysis of the book cover and ended up with a rather lengthy article, feel free to skim.
Saxton Hale Comic Covers-
Characters
-Named:
All comics feature Saxton Hale as a named character (Of course.).
http://www.teamfortress.com/images/posts/001/barbershop.jpg
Shows a barber who is referred to as Giuseppe, although it is not known whether this is his actual name.
-Unnamed:
http://wiki.teamfortress.com/w/images/c/c2/Mailstorm_large.jpg
Two accountant-like characters in the background of comic cover2(most likely non-important).
http://www.teamfortress.com/images/posts/001/girlscouts.jpg
Saxton Hale is referred to as a campmaster and is accompanied by three unnamed girl scouts referred to as “Saxtonettes.”
http://www.teamfortress.com/images/posts/001/mild.jpg
Three unnamed senior citizens and one unknown turtle (Possibility for future Misc. companion? Spread the word for unnamed turtle)
http://www.teamfortress.com/images/posts/001/ape.jpg
Features woman with showing cleavage, most likely a one-off (Maybe that this is a younger version of the Administrator? It is unlikely, but there are no features that definitively disprove this.)

Analysis Of Comic Covers:
All are listed in the same order as the links above and will be referred to as the title at the top of the image.
Saxton Hale’s Thrilling Tales-
Simply shows Hale fighting sharks in the middle of a wave laced with blood, Hale is holding a harpoon with a shark mid-section on it. This comic holds no information besides the fact that in the TF2niverse apparently contains a shark species called the “Indonesian Berserker Shark.”
Saxton Hale’s Mail Storm-
Shows Hale and two accountant looking men are bursting through a glass pane. One man is carrying a Mann Co. briefcase. The word blurbs reveal that the comic is 64 pages of letters and responses that the government supposedly forced Hale to print.
Girl’s Adventure Starring Saxton Hale-
Shows no information that is useful. Hales is shown as a scoutmaster with 3 girl scouts about to fight off several grizzly bears using torches.
Saxton Hale’s Mildly Thrilling Adventures-
Shows a small group of the elderly whose shuffle-board puck was stolen by a turtle, then is apparently retrieved by Hale. Shows absolutely no valuable information.
Saxton Hale’s Jungle Brawl-
Shows Hale stabbing a gorilla holding the aforementioned unnamed busty woman. This comic guarantees that “an ape will die on every page.” No other information is available besides the first statement of Hale’s hatred of primates (presumably excluding humans besides hippies.).
Saxton Hale’s Barbershop Action-
Shows hale in a barbershop while fighting a lion. The only named character besides Hale in the covers is a complaining barber called Giuseppe who says that Hale is not sitting still. There is also a warning saying that the comic is not to be sold outside of barbershops (reason unknown).
I'll try to post some regarding the actual comics tomorrow.
First canonical comic, WAR!:
1. The Administrator operates the speaker system from a switchboard that controls which team hears the announcement. The television screens she uses to survey the matches appear to be in game screenshots, or from the "Meet The" videos, some of the screens are obviously from Meet The Spy. It is also revealed that her name is Helen.
2. Miss Pauling is first introduced in this comic and plays a much smaller role than in later comics acting as an assistant for the Administrator and a messenger between aforesaid Administrator and the more sociable mercenaries. She also reveals that they keep tabs on the mercenaries. It is also revealed that she and her friends browse gun catalogs in the comic, unless it was to suggest what Soldier and Demoman would do.
3. They disallow friendship due to the likely hood of revealing facts about the other teams, or the Administrator.
4. In this comic Hale's penchant for jumping out of planes is established, his hatred of hippies, along with his appreciation for steak. It is heavily implied that Helen and Hale have a past together, somewhat supporting my theory that the woman on the cover of Jungle Brawl was a younger version of her.
5. In these earlier comics both Mr. Bidwell and Mr. Reddy have mustaches which are not present in later comics.
6. Mann Co. is established as a gun supplier.
7. The setting is established as being in the area of Badlands, New Mexico, where Demoman's mansion is identified as being. The mansion is where Demoman resides with his mother who constantly pressures him to get more jobs despite the fact they are rich from the mercenary job.
8. The Eyelander is introduced as a weapon that is haunted and calls for heads (and is also more fleshed out in Ring of Fired).
9. Soldier is shown to use the identity of Jane Doe, however it is quite unlikely that that is his real name (obvious reasons). His home is also shown as a booby-trapped, gun filled hovel full of canned tomato soup, supplied by "Captain Dan's Army Surplus Soup."
10. First instance of Helen using the chest television carrying messengers.
11. Soldier is eventually enticed into killing Demo when a fake recording of Demo saying that Soldier was a civilian was played.
I love you.
Loose Canon:
1. (I know this is obvious) Dell Conagher is the Engineer's full name.
2. There are extreme versions of real-world artists, such as Kicasso, and upon browsing the TF2 wiki, I found Shakespearicles, the inventor of rocket jumping.
3. Blutarch Mann has an assistant which has been the same since at least 1890. She is not apparently related to The administrator, although she does bear the slightest resemblance to Miss Pauling.
4. Radigan Conagher created the first life extender machines for Redmond and Blutarch Mann to attempt to outlast each other in a war of waiting, and mercenaries.
5. One of Helen't ancestors is shown to be Elizabeth.
6. Barnabas Hale, (Will add note later with the generation connection to Saxton Hale, I have to go to mvm_coaltown to fact check) Saxton Hale's (Unknown generational ancestor), was awarded Mann co. and the Hale lineage is confirmed to be Australian back to 1850.
7. The original life-extender machines were built in, or directly after 1890, when Radigan Conagher was called to B. Mann's office.
8. Midway down this page, http://www.teamfortress.com/loosecanon/05.html, there is a group picture of the original mercenaries, who began the fight over the Mann co. gravel pits. As well as I can guess their equivalent classes from left to right are: Pyro, Engineer(was last to be identified and blueprints from his satchel back this up), Sniper(The gun, although they look more like Soldier), Scout sitting, Spy, Heavy, Demoman, Soldier, Medic.
9. Radigan has awesome muttonchops (Many people take this as a cue that the shadowed man in Ring of Fired is in fact Radigan Conagher with no other evidence.).
10. Early designs of the sentry gun stages were blueprints on the wall of Radigan's workshop, where an ancestor of Helen's (Different from the will reading) was waiting to offer him the genius-making element of Australium to build a second life extending machine for Redmond Mann.
11. Radigan's corpse was looted to gain the blueprints and maps of australium stashes all around, these were given to the modern Engineer, Dell.
12. The life extender does not actually extend life, but revives the user whenever they die.
13. The Engineer gains his extreme intelligence, sentry designs, and teleporter designs from his grandfather's notes, which contain said blueprints and map of australium stashes.
If you see anything incorrect, or have anything to add, feel free to say so.
TL;DR, but the most noteworthy thing from any of the comics is that Abraham Lincoln was the first pyro, and the third life-extender machine made by Conagher was built on the day of Lincolns death.

Is the pyro really Ol' Abe after all these years?

Nah, man, Lincoln was too busy inventing staircases.
Bidwell's Big Plan:
1. Charles Darling is Hale's old mentor and nemesis as he began collecting animals instead of punching them to death, as Hale prefers.
2. Hale can track hippies by scent.
This comic didn't really have much useful information.

He's had a hundred years or so. He could easily be the inventor of stairs and the pyro :P
Lincoln is the mysterious figure. The way he refers to "them" implies he know of the mercs and their specialisations. And "us" may be the rest of the original mercs. The silhouette matches, minus the hat. Thats my speculation anyway. Don't know how it could be him though with all 3 of the life-extender machines been accounted for, so that questions the speculation. However the last macine was built on the day of Licolns death so....

Or maybe the mysterious figure is John Phantom, Ghost D.A, that would be amusing.

The third life-extender machine that the first engineer built was never accounted for. The one Gray Mann uses was built by Gray Mann, for a total of 4 known life-extender machines known.
I'm not going to weigh into the life-extenders for a little while until I go digging in the wiki more, but here's my notes on Meet the Director:
1. The rough population of Teufort is 1280.
2. People are biased against Australians (Established that they're moustachioed drunkards in the TF2niverse that are also geniuses).
3. The Sniper's last name is Mundy (Meaning I now call him Sniper Mundy if need be).
4. The Administrator (It doesn't feel right to call her Helen) ordered the Director to interview the mercenaries to keep track of their activities and sniff out trouble. This was (Obviously) the source of the Meet The Team videos.
5. The Heavy's father was a counter-revolutionary. He also had a mother and sisters, they were deported to a gulag where they then escaped in December of 1941. The guards were tortured to death (Presumably they touched Heavy's gun).
6. She weighs 150 kilograms and $200 custom rounds.
7. The Scout is, as always, insufferable, has presumably stolen the Heavy's Sandvich, and hits on Miss Pauling yet again. (Sorry if this is biased, but I HATE comic Scout)
8. The Sniper has parents which strongly resemble Muriel and Eustice from Courage the Cowardly Dog.
9. The Heavy lives in a very nice house (I do believe it's in Siberia if I remember Ring of Fired correctly). His gun, Sascha, has a small bed beside the Heavy's.
10. The surveillance was also to be used as a warning and threat to the Mercenaries.
11. Miss Pauling then lured the Director into a mine, shot him, and buried him in the mine, covered with Mann Co. Corpse Grade Quicklime. (I have a theory that he's hidden somewhere on a MvM map where there's the quicklime in Mannworks, and the cave in Bigrock, but that's entirely a theory)
12. This was a promo for the First Annual Saxxy Awards.
Wait a minute. The Soldier killed someone in the last comic relased?
Ooooh, a thought occurs. Was Tom Jones the "at least one guaranteed death"?
Well, time to act like Merasmus and bring this thread back to life!
(I have determined this is canon due to the presence of the weapons in-game and the lack of any "preposterous" plot items (Moon being blown up, ect.)
Dr. Grordbort's Crash Landing-
1. Further cementing that Soldier did not go to war in the actual war is that he made his own war-buddies from propped up plywood and are named Salty Pete, Iron Eye, and Pepper Pot Pete(Although his name is changed to "Peter Pepper-Pants" midway through the first page.)
2. Soldier holds tea parties.
3. Soldier finds the space weaponry and continuing to talk to his "companions" (Purely in banter) that it was time for them to join the "Space Marines."
