Totally agree. I've almost said that to several people today...
It's easy to counter, but newer players that play Pyro tend to only W+M1, which results in them getting called "W+M1 Pyros in a derogatory manner. Scouts are sometimes called "W+M1 Scouts" for similar reasons, though W+M1 Scout is very ineffective, due to the class's low HP.
For those above: W+M1 Heavy doesn't work that well, since you move so slow while firing your minigun.
Pyro: hold W and M1
Heavy: hold M1
Demoman: using sticky launcher, rapidly press M1 and M2
Sniper: M2 and click people's heads
Spy: M2 until you are behind enemy lines, then W + M1 at people's backs
Medic: M1 until meter is full, then M2
Engineer: 4 + 1 + M1, then keep hitting building
Scout: X + 5 until everyone gets so annoyed they leave
Soldier: W until you see enemies, then click them and hope they don't move
With some math using the default flamethrower: maximum damage is 6.82 and the attack interval is .04 seconds plus after burn (60damage over 10 seconds)so, (1.00/.04)6.82+60=230.5 damage in ten seconds. But if you're W+M1-ing then the equation is (x/.04)6.82+60, x being how much time you've been treading. 230+ damage within 10 seconds is nothing to laugh about when you're only hitting two buttons.
This strategy is only useful in ambushing attacks though like dropping on a soldier or a heavy with moderately low health to assure that you can kill them and have time to escape alive. In situations where the enemy can see you coming then this becomes an issue of how much damage you're going to take while charging them(way too much).
Thanks for reading, please tell me if my math is wrong if you see any errors :)
