VMT to PNG/JPG?!
I've installed GCFScap and VTFEdit, but how do I convert my VMT file (wood_wall001.vmt) to any kind of image file? Preferably PNG.

Pretty sure there's an export option in VTFE

There is, but the text is, instead of black, gray. (It can't be clicked.) And whenever I do open the file in VTFE, it shows a string of code.. the heck?

Oh yeah, VMTs aren't actual texture files. VTFs are the images, and the VMT is just code for the game to know how the texture should be handled in-game.

Alright - so how would I be able to export it to a PNG..? I'm trying to do this for my TF2 Minecraft resource pack. I'm trying to recreate the maps in Minecraft, and I want it to look as similar to the game as possible.

What I mean is -- where are the VTF files located?

You can actually look at the VMT code, and it references a folder file structure where the VTF would be. Which is almost always going to be in the same folder as the VMT.

Vmt files are not image files. They are basically the properties of the image. Ex: If you want a transparent spray the vmt would have translucent in it.

In VTFEdit there's an export button under the file tab.

Well.. in the code it says (I decided to do brick instead):

"LightmappedGeneric"
{
"$basetexture" "Brick/brickwall001"
"$bumpmap" "Brick/brickwall001_height-ssbump"
"%keywords" "tf"
"$ssbump" "1"
}

Where would this be..?

I checked the brick folder in materials, but there are no VTF files.. at all..

So it's in your /brick folder in your materials.

I found a very easy fix just use GCFScape on tf2_textures_dir.vpk
and this VPK has ALL of the TF2 Textures in it
and yes They are VTF Files
