Ohhh, hell. Let's try having a peaceful talk about Keys.
This is really dissapointing. Even for someone who didn't expect anything good from the actual trading prices forced into players by a site known as backpack.tf, i think this is incredibly dissapointing. Keys have been pushed up to 9 refined. They have been pushed from 8.66, which was bad enough, to 9 refined. When they went to 7.66, yippie, maybe we have some hope, but nope. Key prices go up because backpack.tf takes evidence out of tf2outpost, where you can find a lot of greedy trades, and since people want more money to stack in their backpack, the key price went to 9 refined, and guess why? Greedy trading websites.

I bought my upgrade to premium gift there. Everyone would ask for market price or 3 keys, but i found a single player selling them for 2 keys and 2.22, luckily his item stock was not drained as F2Ps trading their way up to premium are rare. So, let's just get down to the main topic:

What's your full opinion on key prices?

I never trade. Ever. Recently, I noticed that that I have 25 ref piled up just from scrapping weapons. I figured I might as well trade it for something I can sell on the marketplace, so I can at least get something out of all this garbage that clutters my inventory. Then I noticed it would buy me 3 keys. Another 2 if I also trade my random-drop hats. In the distant past when I had "only" 8 ref, I could have bought 3 keys. Does this bother me any? Not in the slightest. Because I don't play TF2 for the trading scene. I play TF2 for playing TF2.

Actually, lately I play TF2 just out of habit. Its ridiculously unbalanced in so many ways. But this isn't about balance, its about hats. I suppose it could be about balance if the hat were to destabilize your head and make you fall over on the floor, but it doesn't. Hats don't do that. Guns do.

Also, its a well known social dynamic that in any system, you have people with power, people without power, and people who have no hope of getting power so they want to change the rules in a way that they get the power they don't deserve. By inventing a different system of trading, you aren't making it more fair, you're just finding a way to make it better FOR YOU. "Oh, my stuff is worth less than I think it should be... lets change the rules so that its worth more! Everyone come to my website instead!"

Frankly, you should be glad people will trade ANYTHING for metal. At all. Ever. Its completely worthless. There isn't a single thing you can craft that isn't cheaper through trading.

Also, I'm unchecking "subscribe to discussion" so I can't read any replies. They will be mind-numbingly bad anyway. In fact, this whole forum is mind-numbingly bad. I just clicked on it because I was bored and wanted to see what the kids were whining about today. But feel free to rant and rave anyway.
+1, most people that complain probably want keys badly but couldn't afford it with scrapbanking or items drops. I got keys through scrapbanking and taunt banking. Is it easy ? No, took me a few months to get all the weapons i want and sell the dupes, buy taunts and sell them and of course buying hats. I just deal with it

If prices of keys drop, upgrade to premium gifts become dirt cheap = more bad player (and a few good ones) join the premium gang

Okay this sums it up.
Requirements: Make an account on http://www.tf2items.com/. Anyone wanting to join will need a reccomendation from one of the existing members.
Rules:Hats for hats, unusuals for unusuals and items such as Keys, or Tour of Duty tickets will be priced by the founders. Anyone trading items recieved from the group to people outside the group will be banned. Also moderated with use of the site http://www.tf2items.com/ every so often.

Just an idea, any flaws in it or is it just stupid?

once again, what's the point?

if you have an item worth less than another item people won't want to trade it with you, and if you have an item worth more you probably don't want to trade it yourself
Some people only care about the cosmetic value, not the economical one, like me. Though I admit it would be hell checking everyone's history. Idea scrapped.

flaws: item does not worth the same. people with burning KE or Burning team captain will be flooded with request for trading cheap 1-2 buds unusual for it cuz unusuals for unusuals, they are worth the same ? and many people still don't know burning KE is the most expensive thing, their minds are stuck at Golden Frying Pan or even 50 buds unusual
I posted there would be tiers of hats such as Unusuals, normal, genuine... Which would be traded with items from the same tier.

So, another reason to keep keys going up is treating P2Ps as an "elite"? This is just plain scum, this is like thinking you're better than everyone for getting yourself a credit card just to pay 0.10 cents or such. I got the P2P gift by trading, so, i think it was worth the effort.

And i had enough time to get game experience while trading. BTW, not every P2P is a good player, and skill doesn't makes a good player. There are annoying P2Ps, who think they're better than everyone who didn't waste time paying 10 cents, you are one of those annoying P2Ps.

Yes those "scum", how dare they pay developers for the game they are playing.... not everyone can be a noble freeloader huh....

people who pay 10c for the game are no better than f2p's, I originally bought the game pre-release and it wasn't until f2p's started going p2p that the whole hate started. if someone's an idiot they're an idiot regardless of paid game status.

<peaceful discussion
<discusson about keys
pick one
The whole keys being expensive thing is great once you realize unboxing and really expensive items are overrated. It took me two unusuals to figure that out. At this point if you're in need of 16-18 metal and have an expendable income just drop 5 dollars for two keys and feed the trader hordes. You can get, what? Five craft hats from one key now? You could furnish an entire class set with a single key with some left over.

Higher level trading is a pain and I'm glad I don't do it anymore.

The scum i'm talking about is people who think they're better for paying few cents for the developers so they can buy a little snicker bar. Some people insult the F2P community because they won't give GabeN money to buy a snicker bar, and think they're better for feeding a terribly smart fat dude. Yes, GabeN is mighty, handsome, rich and fat, and he doesn't cares if you gave him money for another snicker bar.

If you think you're better for fedding chocolate to someone, you didn't got things to be proud of, do you?
Trading shouldn't have even been based on common pricing.

>unbox and unusual
>new one first and probably only one for a while
>some sc r b comes and says "nice hat ill give you 1 bud for it"
>another guy comes offers you 4 hats regular craft hats
>the trades only get worse from there on in
the system was made so people would know the prices, trading in general just ripps people off big time in any game, whether they have a fixed price system or not
