Team Fortress 2
Haunted Halloween Gifts > Halloween Contracts/Merasmissions.
I find it funny how these days players keep asking when Halloween Contracts are due to reset, and here I am shaking my head, thinking back to the good old days before Merasmissions and Halloween Contracts, back to a simpler time when Halloween Items were much easier to obtain, and I daresay more fun as well.

For those who don't know, before contracts were a thing, Halloween Items were obtained by Haunted Halloween Gifts, which were boxes that would spawn in fixed locations on Halloween Maps similar to Gargoyles do, except that grabbing them didn't award you with otherwise useless points, but Cosmetics and Spells!

Yes, you know those absurdly overpriced Halloween Spells that wealthy traders have on all of their cosmetics? Well, they used to be free! Yes, anyone could find them inside of Haunted Halloween Gifts! Sure, some folks complained that it was impossible to hunt down their gift boxes before they despawned, but it was pretty easy so long as you switched to Spy for a bit.

In fact, here's a blast from the past... I made a complete guide on how/where to find Haunted Halloween Gifts on Helltower back in 2013!

Yep, those were the days... I wish that the TF Team would bring back Haunted Halloween Gifts, or at least Halloween Spells, I don't even care if it greatly reduced the value of my backpack. I frankly liked Spells better back when they were free and anyone could get them.

From the beginning Halloween contracts should work like Blood Money in Jungle Inferno contracts. Get souls (for example) for completing contracts and exchange them for items from Merasmus' spooky shop. Halloween Spells should be there too like current Halloween cosmetics and items.
Haunted presents were badly implemented. Not only because at first only one person on the server could pick it up, but also because people were afk farming them on community servers (mostly on Ghost Fort for Hallowen Spells to sell them later) and not actually playing.

I agree with you 100% that they should come back because unlike the contracts, the gifts wouldn’t force you to play on only one specific halloween map just to get one stupid cosmetic.

I like the Halloween contracts. free items. and if you pick the right ones' for you, easy free items.

The haunted halloween gifts gave you free items too, but the only difference was that you didn't have to play on a specific halloween map to get them. You could play on any halloween map to get them. And that was so much better.

Technically yes and no. What you get in the gifts for the maps are going to be the items introduced that year. In Mann Manor it's the class masks (that you can craft to a Saxton Hale mask), Eyeaduct are the Halloween costume parts from 2011, in Ghost Fort it was Halloween Spells for cosmetics and weapons (RIP) and the zombie skins for the classes, and in Helltower it's the abundance of cosmetics from 2013,

And from what I can remember, the gifts found in Helltower are uncraftable and untradable whereas the other maps they were. That and it was only in 2013 and 2014 where players had their own gifts to hunt, before that it was a server wide hunt for them so chances are you won't get those gifts all too much.
