Team Fortress 2
Best interp settings?
I am not looking for a crunch and either I want to get ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ stabs, I just want the best interp/update rate/rate settings for someone that usually gets 30 - 50ms. Should I use a lower rate if I have a bad ping (my monitor is 60) to not lose packets, should I use a lower interp and take the risk of stabs not working when I feel like they should have? I just want to make my stabs feel responsive and stop to lose packets.

I use:

rate 97000
cl_cmdrate 66
cl_updaterate 66
cl_interp 0.0325
cl_interp_ratio 2
cl_smooth 1
cl_smoothtime 0

You usually want the lowest interp for each class. I’ve seen some people use .03 for hitscan classes like scout and sniper but for any projectile classes you want the lowest. For spy, I just stick with .0225, works the best

I tested 'em all n' in my personal experience, they're all wack. Add one to make reflecting rockets easier and it breaks everything else.

You think it's annoying getting shot after you rounded a corner? cl_interp makes it happen every time!

Keep it stock, I say.

You can make different console commands for every class, it’s a little tedious but worth it

Yeah, I tried that. I had diff configs for all my homeboys, but it seemed laggy all the same, so I dropped it like it was hot. Now I roll with straight up O.G. settings.

I can make it for you, I have experience with different class commands

Should I change anything else to use 0.0225 (rate and cl_cmd/updaterate) with the ping that I have?

Appreciate it, dawg. But I'ma just keep rollin' with the O.G. settings.

Interp helps but it's largely placebo. A 1 MS ping and the best tuned interp settings only do so much to offset bad netcode.

These are the generic starting values:
rate 80000 cl_cmdrate 66 cl_updaterate 66 cl_interp 0.03 cl_interp_ratio 2 cl_smooth 1 cl_smoothtime .05

rate and interp are the main ones to fiddle with, and they depend mostly on your internet connection's speed and stability respectively. You can also set interp and interp ratio lower (0.015 & 1) for projectile classes.

Interp gets rounded to the nearest .015, so .0225 gets rounded up to 0.03 anyway.
Unless you meant to say .022499, which will round down to .015

No, latency makes it happen, so you can blame mostly your ping for that. But also, interp contributes to that latency. So by running default interp, which is quite high (100ms), you're actually making it worse.

TF2 actually has pretty good netcode. It's just that internet in the real world kinda sucks.

If I recall correctly, interpolation delay = cl_interp / cl_interp_ratio. Probably not a huge gain fiddling with these settings, but I believe if you want to be as close to the edge, set it to the lowest value before players begin to warp around (a good starting value should be the latency you get/aim for).

but should I change my rate to 90000? ( I noticed I can see when I can stab better with a higher rate and it doesn't mess too much with my ping, however I get some lag spikes. would they stop if I lowered my settings?)
