Possibility of TF2/Valve characters being in Ready Player One?

I've been thinking about this for a long time, and after seeing Overwatch and Battleborn make cameos in the movie, there just had to be a TF2 reference, and if not TF2 probably another more popular Valve property like Half-Life, Counter Strike or Portal.

I say this because with the deal Spielberg and co. made with HTC and Valve to show off the Ready Player One VR demo at SXSW, Valve has a major chance of having one of their properties making a quick cameo. And this can range from something so quick you'll need to review it in 4k at insane FPS in a frame-by-frame analysis to see it clearly, or something like how they shoehorned Tracer or the Iron Giant in. This chance gets bigger with the insane amount of properties aquired by Spielberg as well as promotions not just with HTC and Valve, but also deals with Playstation VR, Roblox, parodies of famous film posters and so on, so even if it wasn't the former HTC VR promotion that sealed the deal, it was probably some miscellaneous outside deal.

Besides, this isn't Valve's first time having references in film. The Witch and the Boomer from L4D got a small appearance in The Cabin in the Woods, GLaDOS was in a trailer for Pacific Rim and also was mentioned in Wreck It Ralph and even TF2 got its' time to shine in the movie 'Chef'.

So, do you think TF2's going to pop up in Ready Player One?

Most video game movies are ♥♥♥♥, I agree. Maybe Spielberg, knowing the genius of film he used to be, could turn it around, but other than that I think the only good video game film would be Wreck-It Ralph.

This. The whole film is for the average peon to go HAHA US GAMERA AMIRITE?!? SO NERDY AND COOL XDXDXD. I'm still going to see it but I expect to be groaning a lot at all the references they'll throw in there for those kinds of people. Also stop calling yourself a gamer if you're not a kid (teenager is pushing it) anymore, that ♥♥♥♥ is cringy as ♥♥♥♥.

I don't really care about Ready Player One, but it would baffle me if TF2 wasn't referenced given its history and new games without the history behind them but were inspired by TF2 (Overwatch) do get referenced.

Also I've heard even things like Undertale and Pop Team Epic get referenced, so yeah.

It's possible. TF2 has lots of memorable characters and the game has had a huge effect on the market when it comes to games.

The movie looks good and I'm hopeful it will be.

I'm surprised PTE would actually get referenced or that they would even have the time to do reference it unless someone involved with the movie liked the comics that much.

God I hope so, cause we already know overwatch capharecters are(tracer is in one of the trailers) just imagine mei and pyro side by side, tracer racing scout, heavy arm wrestling the iron giant, spy doing the conga across a battle field!
