Team Fortress 2
Why the Soldier is an idiot?
In TF comics#2 It talks about chemicals being leaked into the ground and all the residents of teufort being lead filled idiots, Miss Pauling then explains they give the mercenaries bottled water... Soldier instantly reacts with " Bottled What, Now? ". That means Soldier doesn't use bottled water and has been drinking the infected water... What if the Soldier was a well respected, SMART buisness man ( and/or actual soldier ) and his brain was messed up. He was never stupid, just poisened... It's ironic because the mercenaries caused the leakage and he joined the mercenaries... that is really f*cking messed up

From his description from the official team fortress page, it's clear there's already something off with him before he joins up with the mercs.

That's quite an interesting conjecture, but I personally believe that the soldier was already an idiot at the start, and the comment about the bottles was just to show that he was dumb enough to drink the contaminated water. Of course, my belief is likely no more valid then yours, so don't take this as me saying that you're wrong.

Though I see where you are coming from and I respect that. Him being rejected from the war doesn't talk much. What if he was just so smart or kind they did not want to send him into a warfield? If he stayed during the war, the war might of spread the chemicals. He realises this and before he can stop it he goes stupid from the chemicals, a part of him realises that the nazi's caused it and that he tried to apply for the war. And he forgets more of his past life. He doesn't know his own name, hence the name Jane Doe. ( theory )

This is WW2 we're talking about. There was a draft in place, the US would have been happy to take somebody who is able-bodied like soldier. Also, let me tell you something, when it comes to the military, they do not reject people for being "too smart" or "too kind." However, they certainly wouldn't take somebody who is clearly a lunatic and would prove to be dangerous to his own unit.

I'm fine with fan theories, but not so much when they grasp at straws.

Probably he may drink Infected Water , maybe in the time where he was a companion with merasmus , just curious now ,because the only people who met merasmus as more younger , it was demoman and Soldier ,how curious , just at the pals from the casino, maybe even he was smart in that timeline

Soldier was considered insane even before WWII, since the military wouldn't accept him due to his insanity. So that doesn't really make much sense. He even bought his own ticket to go and kill Nazis, and gave himself his own war medals.

Okay, That makes sense. But this is a land with people curing bullet holes in a second, becoming invisable and wizards summoning giant eyeballs
