Strange warpaints ?

I know it's all new and that people may not have had the time to really test it (especially with the servers overloading), but I've not really understood whether you needed a strange paint to make a strange weapon or if you could apply a normal skin on an already strange weapon. Does anyone knows more about this ?

Asking the same question as well,

A theory I have is that a unique paint would just make the skin appear, and the gun would still be strange in itself, while a strange paint comes with a stat clock counter, so the weapon would have the skin PLUS a displayed stat clock.
That's the only way I see for us to have skins on stranges we already have. I can't believe they will make the whole TF2 community reset their stranges just to get a skin.

You need a Strange War Paint to get a Strange skin. You don't actually apply War Paint to existing weapons, this is a common misconception.

it's best just to pony up a little extra cash to something like scrap.tf or mann co store for a strange transfer

Yeah, its sad that war paints dont apply to current weapons like Tasty Salamanders said, but war paints can come in strange quality for you.
