The Caustic Cannon, a new weapon for Pyro.
Ladies and Gentleman, I have come up with a new primary for the pyro.

I call it, The Caustic Cannon

It is not a flamethrower, but it shares some qualities with the Dragons Fury and it's lethality is something entirely new.

The Caustic Cannon, as its name implies, fires a small glob of Caustic Goo that can either coat an enemy or splat on a surface.

Player is directly hit - Player is coated with the Caustic Goo, and will begin to take damage until the player either heads to water where it could be washed off, have a pyro airblast it off, or recieve health during the duration to which the goo wears off.

Indirect hit - a small splotch of goo on the ground becomes a dangerous hazard for enemies who wander aimlessly into it. The small area of the Goo will continue to fizzle on the ground, and enemies who walk onto it will be slowed down and take a small amount of damage that will accumulate for as long as the player is standing in it or until the goo evaporates.

Like Fire, the goo can be evaporated off a surface by air-blasts, and team-mates who get covered in goo can also have it blasted off.

However, it’s got some cons.

First off, the goo is just as hazardous to the player as the enemy. You take damage if you stand in it too, meaning if you shoot an area you want to be going, you are gonna need to take a shortcut, or take the damage head-on like a real pyro.

The goo can get washed off in water, however it can be shot at water and will stay on the surface to cause a little bit of damage as it isn't quick to wash away.

Medics will take damage while in it, but the team-mate they are healing won't take enough damage to matter. But if they aren't healing you, good luck.

It's more primary buffs is that it cannot be spammed. The goo shot will “gum up the machine as it tries to pressurize”, making the player have to wait a few seconds before firing again. It’s range is proportioned by angle, as the glob functions like a pyro sticky bomb.

Primary and Alt-Fire share same Tank
Goo can be removed with Alt-Fire
Goo evaporates over time

Extinguishing Teammates Restores 20 health
+15 Afterburn damage upon coating enemy
On Surface: 100% Chance to Slow Players
On Surface: +5 damage to players in goo
On hit: Coated enemies take +100 afterburn damage
-25 Damage Penalty
+100 Firing and repressurization rate
Can coat yourself (ignoramus)


I'm leaving this open to discussion.

It's lookin' good! One of my favorite acid weapons from video games is the Pestilent Defiler pistol from Borderlands.

This is the fresh kind of weapon concepts that I really love.

Some things I want to mention about this weapon:
  • It appears to have the same fire rate increase mechanic that the DF. The fire rate increase mechanic is clunky, so I definatly suggest taking it off this weapon.
  • The hitting an already burning enemy and hitting a non-burning enemy shouldn't be the difference between dealing crap damage and dealing alright damage. Hitting burning enemies should give a nice bit of damage not be the difference between it dealing alright damage and dealing crap damage. Or else it ends having the same issues as the DF that being enemies that have an effect that removes afterburn instantly or reduces the duration heavily screw over its damage capabilities. Like have burning players being the difference between a max of 90 damage or a max of 80 damage for example.
  • IT NEEDS TEAM COLORED ACID. To make it identifiable to the player if they can or can not walk through it without taking damage. It also needs to be identifable to the Pyro that sprayed their acid that they can not go through their acid some how.
  • Decrease the length the acid stays. Staying for 10-15s is way too long due to it lacking a cooldown. I'd decrease it to 3-5s.
