Can't gift-wrap non-tradable items

So this may seem VERY ignorant but I've been out of trading for a long time now so you'll have to excuse me. I was going to gift wrap a Non-Tradable item to put it up for sale. For those curious btw this happens to be an OG Black Rose knife, ANYWAYS when I went to do so.. I couldn't. I knew this used to be a mechanic people used to trade items that were "non-tradable" but has this been changed/patched? If it hasn't.. am I just stupid?

Wait... if this has been patched... What happened to the already gift wrapped non-tradable items when the patch took effect?
Did they become untradable, or can they still be traded and passed along before being unwrapped?

So that means there's a chance someone Gift Wrapped the Grizzled Veteran Badge, and it might be in someone's inventory to this day!

Making it a super dooper rare and valuable obtainable item...

I'd love to get my hands on one ;-;

for those curious. this was because I wished to sell my OG Black Rose on marketplace. This was mainly to afford college books.. and because I figured an ACTUAL spy main might enjoy having this knife

Prior to the February 29, 2016 Patch not all items were gift wrappable, including some items that were normally tradable, i.e. you couldn't gift wrap metal even though you could trade metal normally.
The patch however made all items gift wrappable as long as they were tradable. i.e. You can now gift wrap metal, unless it is untradable.

For some items like the Grizzled Veteran Badge the patch changed nothing. It went from being "non-wrappable, none tradable" to "wrappable if tradable, none tradable".

Ahh, that's sad.
But it still means there are untradable rare items out there that can no longer be obtained, possibly still wrapped to this day.

this was exactly why I wanted to sell it. I've been "cashing out" so to speak as I'm not a very serious TF2 player anymore and I figured I'd allow others to get some of the rare items I have. I got lucky collecting some less than common items and now that they're locked in my backpack forever.. I feel bad I can't give them to someone who might use/appreciate them more than I ever could or will
