Ayy, I've got a $1700 ASUS ROG GL502VS. GTX 1070, i7 at 6800, 16GB RAM, G-SYNC capable. I get great frames but a lot of tearing for no reason. I've tried screwing with the settings and no matter what I get tearing. Try getting Nvidia GeForce Experience and let it optimize for you. I recommend turning off V-sync and High Dynamic Range or Bloom though, those really screw with your frames and make the tearing worse.

TF2 is unoptimized and CPU heavy, also only optimized for 2007 parts anyways.

Bagel Feb 16, 2017 @ 10:19am
Long answer short, TF2 is poorly optimized.

Can the human eye even see the difference between 60 fps and 300 fps?

144hz monitors exist for a reason, after that point it tends to depend on the person
