Can someone explain how Gift Wrap works now?

Gift wrapped items will be delivered through Steam trading, and are subject to trade holds if the sender doesn't have a Steam Guard Mobile Authenticator.
Items can now be unwrapped by their original wrapper.
Moving forward, only tradable items can be gift wrapped. Items that are currently gift wrapped can be delivered regardless of the tradability of the contents of the gift.

So i havent been able to use a gift wrap for quite some time.

when gift wrap was created, its sole purpose was to be applied to non tradeable items & achievment items, but it could be applied to basically everything, except for a VERY specific list of items that could not be gift wrapped ( usually one of a kind items, like the top notch, and VERY specific achievment items, like the super monday night combat cross promotion items)

Now i dont think the gift wrap works that way anymore, and both valve & the wiki arent very concise on how it now works.

so, how does the gift wrap work now? what items can it be applied to? can it still be applid to achievment items? what about items that were crafted with untradeable metal?

I need exact answers, so only answer if you own a gift wrap RIGHT NOW, not if you owned one at some point in time in the past, as that doesnt exactly help now.

You already have the answer. It can only be applied to tradable items. If they are untradable then you can't use it. Simple.

'here, instead of an item thats designed to make untradeable items tradeable, now you get to pay to put virtual gift wrap on an item, which is then disposed of immediatly when it is opened. thanks for the 2$'

how is it fixing the economy?

traders & websites say gift wrapped items, or items that were previously gift wrapped, are worth less than normal. and now the gift wrap is both cheaper to buy, and cant be used on untradeable items,locking off potential purchases with untradeables, while also making a larger amount of other gift wrapped items.

basically they have removed the ability to buy items that are otherwise stuck in your inventory for good, while also making an over abundance of cheaper, lesser desired gift wrap applied items.
