Concerns of Hacking and secruity issues
I would love ot try this game having just got my vive, but all of the crashing, hacking and security flaws you can find about vrchat is conserning. Its extremely easy to find forums about these subjects within the last month, but its dificult to find informations about whether these kinds of things have been fixed or being implemented. Reading that people are suggesting using VPNs to play a game to protect yourself from hackers is a concerning. Ive also read reports of firewall breaches while playing this game is very concerning. What is the current state of these problems? Are they being address and is it worth playing if this stuff is so ambigious.

I'd say this place is more secure than most of the Internet. And it's the first time I hear about a VPN for VRChat, and I've been here for almost two years.

For your information, the concern of hacking is not about getting your personal information/hacking your account. It is mostly about someone else using modified client to steal our models/avatars from cache, that and using particles/mesh rendering/shaders to cause your game to crash. For now, the most common/basic type of crash gun can be prevented by using an optional JSON file (particle limiter).

The post does not give much detail/insight of the problem, So far i have only seen 2 posts (including the link you have posted) related to the security concern.
Also, if that makes you feel safer, vrchat doesn't allow scripting and isn't running on p2p.

there is also another from around march but I figure the worst of the hacking was happening at that time from what I can tell.

What bothers me the most is that it's impossible to know if the devs
are actually still working on this game at all anymore.
Seems to me they only care when people cannot login, but other than that.... nope.
Seems like the grandest mistake in human history to give up this concept because
if they just fix all the bugs, performance issues and give people something else to do than just stand in a circle and "eye" at eachother - this game could be the biggest, oldest, greatest
multiplayer game ever.

Like I've said before, imagine giving out 500 hours learning blender and 500 more to create your own avatar, just to go into the first room and have a hacker look at you for 2 seconds
and he just yoinks it. And there's -literally- nothing you can do about it.
(I heard something about changing blueprint ID but that was just fartnoise of a hope.)
Or when someone just presses a button and crashes you.
Well, at least you stand a damn chance when someone floods the room with effects
if you are quick enough to block their dumb *sses.
Maybe HTC should throw more money at the devs. :areyouserious:

how prevalent is the crashing still. I know about the particle effect stuff but I mean the more milicious unavoidable crashing. Directed Crashing I guess
I only know how to prevent particle crashing, other than that i have failed to find any official solution , as for the avatar stealing, i doubt changing id will do a damn about it, the best i can do is put a cube with my name inside the avatar. There are good news regarding the playability though, the team is currently working on a plugin called udon, which is something like playmaker, but more suited for vrchat.

if someone steals your avatar can you still use the avatar? Ive read post saying you lose all capability of using it.

If you suspect a user of using a modified client, please report that user via the email "moderation@vrchat.com". It is helpful to also provide your log located in "C:\Users\PC_NAME\AppData\LocalLow\VRChat\vrchat;output_log.txt".

And to answer the above question, avatars cannot be removed from your account unless you delete them yourself.
