Can anyone sum up the pros and cons?
Also i see people online telaporting around, is this what you have to do to move on the HTC?

HTC is better, oculus is becoming a failure and no 3rd party is supporting it

HTC is better in near every aspect, but at this point you might wanna wait for the vive pro,
if you can afford it. Knuckles controllers too. Trackers if you want even more fun.
Oculus is more suitable for those with small rooms, and wallets.
htc vive trust me

The Vive lets you move around your entire room and dance in full body tracking if you are willing to buy the extra tracker pucks.

Steam has thrown it's backing behind the Vive, that's reason enough for me. Don't have any experience with other modern VR systems, but I am enjoying the Vive and feel it's worth getting for lots of reasons beyond just VR Chat.

I'm going to have to play Devil's advocate here.

The Oculus is by no means a "failure", and while the HTC is almost better in every aspect except for the "price" and the default hand "controllers". As to my knowledge, the knuckle controllers to this day still do not work with VRChat, correct me if I'm wrong.

You can get 360 scaling with the default 2 Oculus sensors, but it's recommended to get another sensor up to a maximum of 4 sensors to increase your play space area.

The Vive is better if you have loads of money for it, excluding the controllers. You'll need the Vive headset, the hip and 2 leg trackers (pucks) for this game. All of which are priced rather expensively in comparison to the Oculus.

Summary: I'd buy the Oculus for cheap just to introduce yourself to VR, because the resolution on both headsets is exactly the same, and pretty ♥♥♥♥♥♥ at that for this generation. VR is amazing, but still in it's infintile stages. Until they can figure out how to increase the resolution of the headsets and get rid of the cord a problem for both the Rift and Vive. I wouldn't recommend buying the Vive, and would instead suggest something cheap to start off with, because I am already hungry for the next generation in vrheadsets.

To be quite honest Oculus rift and Vive are both very similar with a few minor perks and pet peeves.. Your best bet is to go to a store that demo's both and try yourself. Don't buy into the fanboyish trash talk about how one sucks and the other is uber. Its pretty dumb considering both companies are pushing the VR industry and have achieved some amazing things. They are both amazing products! Yet very similar at the same time.

There are some exclusives for both headsets but there is also tricks and tweaks to make em work with both platforms.

Price point is another major factor. For the price your better off with a Rift for what ya actually get get outta the box.. There is lots of misconceptions people seem to have. Like the above poster who claimed you cannot move around your room with Rift. That is totally false. You can move around just fine if your sensors are set up correct. Like the vive the only thing holding you back is the length of the wires. Both companies are working towards wireless as well as third party companies. The tech is just not there yet though or stable enough. Both headests require pretty beastly rigs to run Vr so do your research. Don't be expecting to run it on a cheap laptop or pc.

Your best bet is to demo em out for yourself. Check out the software side of things. Oculus Dash is really amazing for multitasking and stuff. SteamVr has some cool stuff to. Do some research outside of steam discussions and check out everything each company has to offer. I think both are pretty great. I went with the Rift because i thought the Joysticks just felt better and it fit my head nice and comfy, the price was right and it came with like a bunch of free games that i was interested in. That said i would not hesistate to buy a Vive if it was same price. They are so similar that the price should really be the same imho. Unless there is some must have feature you absolutally need from Vive then i don't think the extra dough is really worth it. But that is for you to decide.

Having tried both headsets, I have gone with the oculus as my preference due to the better motion controllers and it offering room scale while also being the less expensive option. Also, from personal experience I found the oculus to have slightly sharper resolution.

Wait for the HTC Vive Pro :hubbahubba:

Oculus it's cheaper, i have and i love it. if you want 360 room scale, u need three sensors but, its really not that big of a deal. get the headset first, Used or refurbished, to save money then get the Oculus Touch Controller. It worked for me i saved a lot of money doing that.

i would honestly do what bananacat89 said about trying it out first. headset demos can be in best buys near you and other places, i would definitely try both out (if you want) and see what you like from your own experience

Could just get one of the Mixed Reality headsets for now. Pretty cheap and involves less clutter.

Oculus screendoor effect isnt as bad as the HTC Vive, but HTC Vive Pro will be out soon which will probably be better then oculus, graphic wise they are the same, and the current controllers are better on the oculus. HTC Vive has the capability for full body tracking.
But for the whole vive experience your paying like 3 times the amount of the oculus rift.
If you are playing in a bedroom and dont want to spend tons of money for a good VR experience get the rift.
If you are playing in a living room or wide space want full body VR and have lots of money then you might as well get the Vive.
