Should avatars that cause epilepsy be banned from VRchat?
like flashing images/colors. Sadly this picture doesn't display it correctly but you can get a general idea that it can cause more harm than good

I saw a video yesterday. Someone had a seizure in VRchat.

Ban the avatars? No. Put an epilepsy warning in the game? Yes. Most games have them today and banning an avatar for this reason would be overmoderating.

Nah, I've seen that one. That one isn't intended to create epilepsy attacks.
But those intended to cause it should be banned.

Some avatars emit blinding white light. Not sure how many are intentional. The gray aliens do strangely enough.

yep seen the video some pepole thought it was a joke but it wasn't like sniper wolf said would just better slap a giant sticker with epilepsy warning heck even this game can cuse motion sickness on those rides anyway.

I don’t get motion sick but just try to ride the theme park rides without at least falling over. Saw a video where someone threw up on one. I had to ride a rollercoaster on my knees so I didn’t fall.

If they go down that route then they have to start banning some worlds to. There is a few worlds that are extremely hard on the brain when in Vr. Only one i saw with a warning was Roni's Rave.

I saw one of the vids where guy had a siezure.. sucks for that guy. But he openly stated its not the first time this has happened., We are given warnings in the instructions for both the Rift and the Vive about Epiliepsy and siezures. We are also given another warning during initial setup.

Just like any other pancake game on console or pc, It is up the end user whether they want to risk it or not.

That said. If somones avatar is just to damn intrusive and hurting peoples eyes, and that is the only reason they made it. Then yeah. It probably should not be in the game. Especially if its sole purpose is to agitate and grief people. I have only seen a few worthy of blocking. My eyeballs behind my headset thanked me when i did. It should be common courtesy to not create those ones, Saldy a lot of people lack any what so ever...

Yeah no, it's their own fault if they know they have seizures but play anyway.
are you saying kill them all and let god sort them out ?

That wasnt the avatars fault. Some worlds use "the sun" as their light source and certain meshes tend to reflect that light source. There was nothing malicious there.

Natural selection.

But seriously what kind of hyperbolic response is that?

Simply said, people who have epilepsy KNOW to look out for dangers.
If you have a seizure playing this game (from epilepsy) you have simply not informed yourself about what this game contains.

Now its really ♥♥♥♥♥♥ and all, passing out, biting your tongue, looking like a bird on LSD, but its your own responsibility to avoid things you are sensitive about (story of life, if you don't like heights, don't go to the top floor of a building. If you don't like traps, you aren't gay)

i dont know how fast epilepsie kicks in if someone sees such an avatar. If it isnt instant he/she can still quickly block that person to not see them anymore.
Xenu Jan 19, 2018 @ 5:28pm
Epilepsy isn't just from seeing stuff, its overstimulation, guess what, a VR headset in a game where 20 people talk through eachother and theres a gazillion colours everywhere that move arround.... you don't need particle effects to have it take the better of you.
