Path of the Brave/Cowardly
At some point in the game, the CP restoring fountain has a quest in it (the center, the CP restore bit is on the south side), where it says - fight 300 battles as the path of the brave or the cowardly. I have no idea when this sidequest started (100% completion, just about to start the final dungeon), and it says I am neither brave nor cowardly, and that the path of the brave is blocked off to me. I have to walk the path of the cowardly. I know there's a steam achievement for both paths, so this exists, but I have no idea when this quest started, and now that I've missed it, what the 'boon' is for the path of the brave. Help!

It means fight 300 battles without running or run from 300 battles

Path of the Brave means fighting at least 300 battles and NEVER escaping, and earns you a Quartz that lowers your HP but gives you a 50% chance to repel physical attacks. Path of the Cowardly gives you one that lowers your EP but gives you a 50% chance to repel arts instead, and you get it by escaping from at least 300 battles. It doesn't really start at any point and counts from the moment you start your game, it's just that you can't collect the reward until you hit the last chapter.

Thanks for the quick responses, so to get path of the brave, you need to make sure the first 300 fights are without running away, or every single fight is without running away? I've grinded out path of the cowardly, got the Reflect Gem, it's 8 Blue (Primary), 6 Green, 4 White. Will probably replace Kloe's Yin Yang

The moment you escape from even a single battle, you cannot claim the reward in the final chapter anymore. As such, you still need to fight every battle until the end even if you go above 300. You can escape once you claim the reward, however you cannot claim both rewards in one run.

Thanks once again for that clarification, whoa that sounds painful to do outside of a NG+

Deciding whether to put Reflect on Kloe (and then rely on fights finishing fast/EP charges) or on Tita's solo slot (increasing her survivability) as she's a terrible mage in her Orbal Gear Solid build. Decisions decisions.

People have been saying that achievements are associated with this. That true?

It is, yeah. Fierce Fighter and Flighty Fighter, respectively.

Guess I'll save this for a nightmare run.

Welp I now know what I am doing. First a normal mode with the path of brave and then a new game + for the coward on nightmare. Then do a marathon of all 3 trails.
This achievement sucked for me. I was intending to do path of the brave first and then i got to the dark area of chapter 4 where everyone has forced blindness. I ran into an enemy before i got the goggles and i couldnt do anything but escape. And i hadnt saved in a while. feelsbadman:steamsalty::steamsalty::steamsalty:

You'd saved before entering -- that's what the autosaves are for at a time like this, after all!

Just go to the save screen and go back 1 page on the first page for your autosaves.

I'm amazed there are people who played through both FC and SC and still don't compulsively save to a new file every time something happens. I'm like 150 files in right now and I haven't even begun the finale proper yet (though I'm still in that chapter.)

The Mirror quartz is probably more useful overall, but the Reflect quartz is easier to fit onto characters because an EP penalty is much easier to swallow than an HP one.

I did buy googles before but still had all my 4 party members blinded so I was forced to flee.

Same thing happened to me. I only learned where to find the autosaves after.
