How to report bugs & crashes
I'm sorry to hear you encountered a bug or crash! Please follow the steps below carefully to get your bug identified and resolved as soon as possible.

NOTE: layer issues don't have to be reported using the steps below! Just throw a screenshot on the forums and we'll make sure it's taken care of.

1. Scroll through the forums for existing threads
Scroll through the Bugs forum on Steam to see if anyone else experienced the same bug as you did - maybe a thread will contain a fix to the problem.

2. Try the 'bugfixes' beta branch
Some bugfixes are first tested before sent to everyone in a special branch of the game that you can access too. Select that beta branch by right clicking Hidden Folks > Properties > Betas tab > Select 'bugfixes' from the dropdown. It should automatically start downloading a new version if it's there. (Note: if no new version starts to download at this point, there is no new version to hopefully fix your bug on Steam yet, so please do proceed with the next steps!)

  • If this fixes your problem: let me know here on the forums that you had a bug that was fixed by getting on the bug fixes branch, so that I know that I should push this out all users! No need to go through the following steps.

  • If this does not fix your problem: please stay on the 'bugfixes' branch for the next steps. I recommend going back to the public branch when the problem is solved for you so that you don't get any funky in-between versions of Hidden Folks in the future.

3. Locate the output log on your computer
Being on the 'bugfixes' branch, having tried to run the game, and the bug occurred, locate the output log file on your computer. You may find this text file alongside the game on your computer, or on any of the following locations:


Windows options:
C:\Users\[username]\AppData\LocalLow\Adriaan de Jongh\Hidden Folks\output_log.txt
... or right mouse click Hidden Folks in Steam > Properties > Local Files > browse... > Hidden Folks_Data\output_log.txt

~/.config/unity3d/Adriaan de Jongh/Hidden Folks/Player.log

4. Report the bug on the Bugs forum
Please post to the bug forums using the template below. Copy / paste it and replace the dots.

5. Be patient
If you have followed all the steps above, Adriaan or a moderator will get back to you as soon as possible. At the very least, we will let you know we are looking into it, and we will report back with progress.
